Is Aljo right here?

If people think Belal and Merab are boring, then I don't think people necessarily think wrestling or grappling is boring but just their styles of wrestling/grappling/fighting. So I don't think Aljo is right here.

You hit the nail on the head with that 4000IQ comment. One of the most annoying type of fans are the ones that act as if a boring fight is so entertaining because they're such educated fans of the sport. I bet you those same fans secretly found Ngannou vs Lewis to be boring af.
You are wrong. No one defends Ngannou vs Lewis. They are defending fights where there are high skills on display.

I would agree if this was a new development for Merab against more dangerous opponents, but the issue is that he does this against people like Terrion Ware and Brad Kataona as well. 10 decisions in 11 fights.

This has been his standard m.o. since beginning in the UFC.

Do you find all of his fights boring? I don't, but then again, I didn't find his fight against o'malley boring either. He's just not a finisher, similar to how dominick cruz wasn't a finisher, but I didn't find him boring either.

i was starting to like merab… and then aljo had to remind me that they’re bffs. gross.

This is such a lame defence when I hear this, from fans usually.

It's simplifying the argument to create a straw man for yourself to knock down.

Not everybody who finds wrestlers or certain kinds of wrestlers boring want to watch kickboxing. Or, they'd watch fkn kickboxing. There's ground and grappling elements which still involve violence - aka ground n pound, elbows, and submissions; BJJ is still interesting, combative, violent;

Wheras, holding people and stalling (not saying that's what Merab did btw. no comment on him/separate/in general... ) is NOT that. It's not combat, it's not violence, it's not causing damage, it's not trying to cause damage, or win. It's a lame fkn way of using a trick, essentially, something you know how to do, to just kill the action and 'win' rounds. It's fkn lame.

Plenty of us still like ALL the elements of fighting Aljo. Just not bullshit types of wrestling. Take somebody down, sure, but for a purpose; prime example of what I'm talking about, which is bullshit is what Usman used to do; like, v Masvidal 1 - fkn holding him against the fence and not doing shit, just keeping him there not able to fight back. Oh, my mistake, he did toe stomp!

Bro Belal dumped Leon on his bald spot lol

The grappling wasn't the problem.
I care about Merab trying not to fight for the first 2 minutes each round, so he could steal the round with holding.

I do find his fights boring. The comparison to Cruz is valid. I guess the variation Dom had is his offense and defense combined with the impression that he was actively making and effort to finish the fight kept things more interesting.

Fght however you want to fight, but don't be upset if most fans don't find it entertaining because it typically results in so little violence.

To most fans their approach to fighting is just not inherently entertaining (weaponized cardio/using wrestling+grappling control to tire opponents). It is what it is, just fight like how you want to fight and accept the criticism instead of arguing that people should be entertained when they aren't.

It's somehow just not enough for them to win, they are mad that they aren't loved for how they win, which is both illogical and delusional.
Mic drop.

It was a boring ass fight, but it is what it is. Aljo don’t gotta be elitist about it, boring fights happen all the time and Merab fought a great gameplan. Don’t really get the “go watch kickboxing/bkfc” argument either as boring ass stand up fights happen all the time in mma where fans try to excuse them away as “technical masterpieces” such as Till vs Wonderboy.

Like others said, get mad at your favorite fighter for not learning takedown defense, not the wrestler.
