Im a console player, but thinking about finally making the purchase and branching out to PC.

What are everyones thoughts on the Alienware Aurora R11?

Would I be better off just building my own? If so, where do I start? Is there a guide on the best parts to purchase?

I don't know too much about Alienware. But based off what i've heard about it over the years, it's an overpriced brand and you're better off building your own.

Part picker is a really good site that lets you pick the components you want to build your PC.

And it's great for beginners because you don't have to worry about compatibility. You pick a motherboard and it will only suggest compatible components to go with it.

As to what parts to purchase, it all depends on your budget and what you intend to do with your computer. You also want to build a balanced system with the least amount of bottleneck.

So if for example you want to play games, you don't want to go for a $400 CPU and buy a cheap $200 graphics card. Because your graphics card will be a limiting factor.

Maybe you can post your budget and i'm sure some people here can give you some suggestions as to what build to go for.

You could build a more gaming specific PC for cheaper, with much better spec than the Alienware prebuilt PCs.

A 5800x/3060Ti combo with 32 GB ram (3200hz) and 512gb SSD for £2000 is damn terrible (extortionate for a gaming PC)

Build your own, watch a few Youtube tutorials, and its super easy and rewarding to put the parts together. Use something like PC partpicker to get an overview of the parts you want, and use the price history to check if youre getting a good deal for a part. If I can build a PC, then anyone can (serious).

I put this PC together in like 3-4 mins, you could do more research on to choose a motherboard, CPU, RAM etc, but the 3600mhz (XMP) is perfect for the 5600x.

You could find the parts for much cheaper, on sale, and this doesnt include the £649 GPU price. The overall cost of this PC should be ~£1500 (if you pick the items that go on sale often for cheap and pick the rest up at MSRP). £2-5 for a windows 10 activation key saves you £95 for the OS and this shits all over the Alienware PC.

Any suggestions on parts?

Also, not to promote another site, but Tom's Hardware is a great ressource for anything computer related.

It has an active forum with a lot of knowledgeable people so if you can't find your answer here for something computer related, you should definitely check it out. There are also a lot of good articles and reviews that can help.

I remember they had a PSU tier list which was really useful to help you pick a good quality PSU.

All of these systems can be built for like 200-400 dollars Cheaper than any of these custom pc build sites. You are paying a premium for someone to build it for you.

building your own is also more fun. Pcpartpicker is a great site to plan it out and see builds. Also Reddit build a pc sales is great too to catch deals

You're usually better off building but GPU prices are so stupidly high right now that buying a prebuild is actually a better deal. For example, an HP Omen with a 3080 right now is $1800. The 3080 has an MSRP of $700 (lol) but the cheapest one on Ebay right now is $1200.

but can you actually buy one of those online and have it at your house within 2 weeks?

good luck getting your hands on a decent video card right now. only way I can think of is to just buy a pre build.

some seemed to have trickled in this week... but the pricing (tariff hit) is akin to the scalper prices on ebay, anyway

Whys that?
Sorry for the ignorance. Im a PC noob

When Bitcoin's stock soars as it is right now, then you see an influx of coin farms spring up which require daisy chained top end video card gpu's.

So they get all snatched up before they even hit the market. Go look for yourself! They are all "out of stock"

Yikes. Might be incredibly difficult to score for a while then...

That's not a terrible value, but not great either. I ordered a rig with the same GPU and a comparable CPU (5600x) with more RAM and more storage for $50 less than that from iBuyPower. Ibuypower and cyberpowerpc are the way to go right now to get the most bang for your buck. HOWEVER! the wait to actually get the rig delivered to your house is like 8+ weeks, so probably not for you if you're feeling impatient.
