Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is intelligent.

Murkans are brainwashed to be so frightened of socialists so they have to nitpick every thing they do.

I don't trust any 23 year old to tell me what an existential crisis is. Watch a stripper get pelted with coins and fall off the stage, then tell me about existential threats.

Socialists are desperate so they prop her up and defend her when it's clear she has no idea what she is talking about.

American politics is stuck with her for what, another 50 years? Yet another example of why I dislike the idea of "career politician." Ideologue for life.

Of course she's smart. She's young, though. I was pretty surprised after listening to that clip, though, because I was expecting some outrageous comment.

I wasn't expecting a pretty cut-and-dry analogy about how the United States (and every Allies country) mobilized its economy towards the war effort - and how it's (very clearly) necessary to mobilize the economy and our societies toward addressing climate change. So...are we making fun of her for comparing WW2 Germany to the greatest ecological threat in recorded human history? Is this the epitome of laughing at knowledge because it's too scary to comprehend?

EDIT: Also, Ocasio-Cortez isn't a socialist by any definition of socialism that I can conjure. But she does seem like a great person, and she seems fairly intelligent.

Ya, so weird.

Hey, what's socialism?

Pst, maybe read the posts of the person who liked your post, so you understand the context of your comment
I don't hate her. I'm just tired of hearing both from the TYT crowd trying to prop her up and Fox News for using her to scare up their base. She is a mediocre candidate.

Is this what Jordan Peterson was talking about when asked what do we do with the sub 85 IQ population who are not capable of positive contribution?
We make them Democratic politicians?

Lost it when she just threw random numbers of war effort workers without googling it. I mean, her message is it takes a collective effort, which is superficially right but she goes full retard with the ww2 blue print analogy not understanding the economics behind it; her New Green Deal concept makes more sense. Considering her degree is in economics, I think that clip should entitle her to a refund from BU.

I agree that she's only moderately intelligent and has only moderate charisma.

But do you think what she's saying is dumb? Or crazy? This actually seems like a good clip for AOC, especially for it being candid.

I had to look her up to see if she was really 23. She's actually 29 which is still very young given her success. I'm really impressed with her credentials, she's an incredibly intelligent woman who is actually well versed in science. She probably knows a bit about climate change and how we can address it.

"Good" is relative. My expectations for have dropped over the months. Fox will just treat her as a useful idiot to straw man the entire progressive wing. Hopefully she improves.

I don't think it's a matter of intelligence or craziness in her drawing that analogy. Rather an absence of persuasiveness as she doesn't know the other side; she's just preaching to a choir. She does not address three key aspects that made the US actually change its economy in relation to the "existential threat" of the German War Machine:

1. Imminence - Germany and its allies were to conquer Europe, then they no doubt would take the attack to the US shores in due course.
2. Tangibility - The threat was something that you could see, hear, feel.
3. Loss - The US didn't enter WW2 until after the Pearl Harbor attack.

Her suggestion is that the US needs to universally galvanise around the threat of climate change and become myopic in its focus and gear everything towards green jobs and not only that her suggestion is this would be economically beneficial to do so. Further, she implies that the "blueprint" already exists to do this and this is not a 'new idea'. To change the economy in a way she is suggesting would require not just convincing the left, but the right and the centre to agree ideologically to radically change the economy. The right do not see this as an imminent threat, it's more theoretical than tangential in that view and in the right's view there is no nexus between natural disasters and climate change, and thus even if a natural disaster occurs it is for another reason, and therefore do not associate climate change with loss. She'll also probably cite FDR and the New Deal as a flawless solution to economic woes, as this is a fetish of the Jimmy Dores of the world.

Rather than using WW2, which has an extreme emotional charge to this day and an analogy that will be treated with extreme scepticism at the outset, she should have used something else to drive home her point, taken another path. To me it was just unwise as it'll just be used as fodder to dismiss progressive ideas as a whole.

I think she's cute as far as politicians go. What's her tax plan? Does she care about poor white people, or only the PoC ones?

What she said actually makes sense.

Nazis/Japan were a threat to the USA thus we mobilized, created tanks/weapons/planes etc to stopping the thread...our whole economy was converted to support the war effort.

She is simply is saying that now, the threat is a country but Global Warming...and like defeating Nazis/Japan, American mobilize the country to turn use renewable energy and minimize global warming.

OP simply lacks brain cells to think critically.

She's uninformed and everyone knows it. If she had an R beside her name WR libs would tear her apart.
