TBH, I didn't see that lol. I don't know; I've always doubted Volk in some way or another. Like I doubted that his submission defense wouldn't be able to hold up to Ortega's submission game. It did. Barely. But it did. I thought Max Holloway would fight Volk in the 3rd fight, like how he fought Kattar and looked unstoppable. Volk made him look silly. Every time I watch this guy, he proves me wrong. I'm not saying I doubt him against Islam, but Islam is a different breed of fighter. It'll be a great match. It will be hard for Volk to win, but he could do it. He's proved me wrong before, and he can do it again.

This is really a no lose situation for Volk. Regardless of what he says. All of the risk is on Islam.
Volk is very good and I am sure he is taking the challenge seriously, but if he loses.. he is still perhaps the best of all time at his own weight. He doesn't lose a whole lot.

Volk is risking nothing here. He loses nothing and can get everything and more. But you gotta respect him for trying as this looks impossible for him. True warrior spirit in him.

Too right. Literally never lost at 145 lbs.
He, Max, Conor and Aldo all have unbelievable resumes at 145.
Hard to even rank them.

There's a reason Volkanovski is the number one ranked pound for pound fighter in the UFC right now. I consider him and Makhachev to be the two best currently. Specialists frequently have trouble, but Islam's specialty is dictating where the fight takes place. To me, that trumps any amount of well-roundedness. I keep coming back to the fact that Alex hasn't faced a wrestler since Mendes, and that was Mendes in his retirement fight, not at his peak. Until I see him do it, I have trouble believing that Volkanovski can deal with the level of wrestling and grappling that Makhachev brings to the table, even before bringing size into the equation.

Disagree on ranking.. all are great and legends.. but right now Volk is always going to be on top of Max. Max on top of Aldo.

Volk really sounds as confident and as ready as anyone that I've ever seen.
If he isn't really outsized and outmuscled, he's got a pretty good chance. I thought Islam would just run through him, but after thinking about this fight, I think if that isn't the case regarding the size and strength difference, Volk can win this. But who knows if he isn't? For all we know Islam will just lift him up and put him down on his head.
And it's really hard to say based on what people say before the fight too.

I definitely favor Islam, but Volk does have a path to victory in this fight. Volk will have to use speed, high pace, high volume output, footwork and movement to win. Volk is a walking burst of energy, he can just keep going and going at a very high and fast pace. That can be difficult to deal with, especially for a slower fighter. I can see a scenario where if Volk can quickly and continuously get right back up from takedowns, he wears Islam down with high volume striking and tons of movement. My thoughts about this fight are similar to my thoughts about Rousey Vs Holm before that fight took place. I favored Rousey, but thought that Holm's ability to move her feet is probably going to be unlike anything that she's encountered and gives Holm a legit path to victory. Volk doesn't have much room for error, but he's a special fighter and anything can happen in MMA.

I’m a Volk fan but & am putting a little $$ on him but this is what I fear. A controversial decision for Volk will mean an Islam rematch hence holding up BOTH decisions indefinitely.
Whoever wins a really hope it’s decisive
