Seems like the UFC wants the Topuria/Holloway winner to turn around quick & defend the title in February. If they aren't able to do that due to injury etc than they will do an interim title vs Lopes.

One of the losses was at lightweight. He's only lost once at featherweight ever, it's not hard to justify putting him in a title shot at all. He's not in the same place as Usman.

Like I said he's lost once at featherweight ever. It'll be nearly a year after his loss to Topuria by the time he steps in the cage again. He's 36 now and making big bucks with the UFC, there is no "go out there and get a couple wins".

They are already slotting in Volkanovski to fight for a title at UFC 312 in Sydney in February. It's the same exact situation as when they wanted Derrick Lewis fighting for a title at UFC 265 in Texas. Either the champion is going to turn around to defend the title shortly after 308 or they will make an interim title up. It's not complicated.

"1-3 in last four" The lightweight losses are irrelevant. He defended the featherweight title 5 times, and did the UFC a big favor (which may not have been the smartest decision) in taking the Makhachev rematch on short notice. He's earned the shot to fight for featherweight gold in his next fight, period.

Bro two straight losses are two straight losses doesn´t matter which division it happened at.. Usman is 0-3 as well! Volk is 0-2 in his last two fights that is a fact. Let him fight someone first but if the UFC wants to please the Australian gov´t who may have demanded this I can see them wanting to bring two title fights there but makes no sense volk getting it really he is 0-2

So Volk's losses at lightweight disqualify him from getting a title shot at featherweight where he had 5 title defenses & has only ever lost once there? I don't think so.

Not the same situation as Usman at all. Usman already got his immediate rematch after he was knocked out and then he lost again to the same opponent.

Topuria is not gonna take damage in this fight. He is gonna beat Holloway one-sided. He should be ready in Febuary but not sure if that fight excites him really.. He may object to that fight being immediately but other then that I am down with it
