Well, that would be a very interesting replacement, specially considering that Stipe's last and only indisputable loss came against a much taller guy (Struve).
Volkov is not 7ft tall like Struve, but at 6'7 and having beat Struve recently, he could be the perfect opponent to see how much Stipe improved, and to shutdown the hypothesis that he could struggle with guys with more length.

Everyone can ragdoll Volkov, until they can't anymore. Volkov never gasses, his cardio is excellent and his ground game of his back is good enough to minimize damage and to survive. I like his chances against DC, not so much against Stipe because of the KO power, but who knows.

Training camps are a big investment but if theres a couple injury prone fighters (AKA) in a main event lower profile guys could get a big paycheck

It shouldn't if this was a real sport. Lesnar would need at least 3 wins before sniffing a shitle tot. But mma is a circus so whatevs.
