    He was the one who started the donut celebrations after winning races. He was a great champion in Indy Car.

    No one was doing them in Indy Car/CART/NASCAR until Alex did them. After Alex started, many winners did the same. People may have been doing them for a long time, but for the big North American racing leagues, I never saw them. Perhaps, I should have said, popularized them.

    He got tboned didn't he? Sorry I'm not a big open wheel guy. I thought he came back and raced in Champ a couple of times.

    Yes, he was in a horrific crash that almost cost him his life. In fact, there was a priest ready to give him last rites on the track. I'm not sure what he did after his wreck.
