Alex Pereira Vows to 'Make Some Adjustments' for Expected Rematch vs. Ankalaev

Yeah, the Pereira Era is over. Much like Izzy, Alex is going on a downhill slide. Expect to see him do bare knuckle against Mike Perry in 2027. That or fighting a Paul.

...but seriously, his reign at the top is over. The only way he gets the title again is if the champ has a freak injury/is stripped and the new opponent is tailor-made for him.

I might be in the minority here but I didnt think the fight was close. good start for Alex with the predictable calf kicks but after that, he was at best stalling and at worst losing/getting fucking rock't

They’re gonna do their best to push this rematch as fast as humanly possible

Ank should make him sit for 9 months

He needs to have much more output with the hands, he barely threw any punches to the head, which I was really surprised about, he threw tons of leg kicks and an occasional head kick. He needs to let his hands go, he seemed very hesitant to throw them.

His TDD looked perfect though and actually he got the only takedown when he threw Ank at end of the round. Alex has very good balance.

Its nothing dramatic he has to change, he only lost 3-2, both of them were very tentative and hesitant, Ank just had a bit more output.

Alex Pereira didn’t perform up to his usual lofty standards at UFC 313, but “Poatan” is taking his first light heavyweight defeat in stride.

Pereira relinquished the 205-pound strap to Magomed Ankalaev in Saturday’s headliner at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, falling via unanimous decision in an affair where he struggled to unleash his vaunted striking. After the bout, the Brazilian released a brief statement in a video on Instagram.

That’s it, everyone. Some marks, but I’m good,” Pereira said. “Going to rest a bit. I’ll be back, like I’ve always done. This has already happened. Life continues.”

It isn’t the first time Pereira has tasted defeat in the Octagon, as he suffered a second-round knockout loss to Israel Adesanya in a middleweight title rematch at UFC 287 in April 2023. After that, he move to 205 pounds and won five straight bouts before falling to Ankalaev.

At Saturday’s post-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White indicated that an Ankalaev-Pereira rematch would “probably” be next at light heavyweight. If that happens, “Poatan” expects to do some things differently.

“Thank you to my team,” he said. “Gonna make some adjustments for the rematch, and I’ll be back much better. You can count on it. Never give up on your dreams. Chama.”

I'm sure It'll be written into the fight contract that both fighters signed that in the event of Pereira losing he has the absolute right to an instant rematch.

At least Alex now knows what he is dealing with regarding his opponent and that will undoubtedly be more help to Pereira than to Ankalaev.
I was talking to some friends from outta town during the main event so I didn't get a chance to watch it carefully but I was surprised by Pereira's relative inactivity from what I saw. Either he got an injury during the fight (or before) or getting slugger at end of Rd. 2 messed him up for the entire rest of the fight. He definitely looked 'off' to me (not to take anything away from Ankalaev).

There is plenty that Pereira can change…

The rematch could potentially look like a completely different fight, if it happens…

And let’s hope it does, because last night’s bout was highly uneventful…

Maybe he could try training this time instead of being a passport bro.

This is like Dricus vs Strickland written all over it. I believe, Ankalaeva beats Poatan much worse in the rematch.

Poatan will win the rematch if he increase his output by even 20% it was close on the fights stats.

Ank is not some unstoppable force he came prepared and Alex wasn’t his usual self.

Looking forward to the rematch.

With Alex experience I would not count him out.

Not feeling the rematch. Pereira isn't getting any younger and he'll most likely have to sit out a year before he gets the rematch. Give him a few fun fights then retire. Izzy at LHW would be fun or move up to HW.
