anybody following the case? nothing conclusive against him but some strong circumstantial evidence not in his favor, especially his voice in the video taken shortly before the murder.

I don't have deep knowledge of the evidence for or against him, I heard something about cell phone records that might point to a different killer, anybody know anything about that?

no it looks like no one here is.
whats the story?

He was a lawyer who's had all these embezzlement cases against him, he's charged With blasting his wife and youngest kid with a shotgun. There is circumstantial evidence against him, but there is no clear motive and it looks to go against his character.

This is absolutely not true.

FWIW - the entire family has been running an epic corruption scam the last 3 decades in the county. He probably killed the housekeeper as well. that was shady as fuck.

I'm aware of the corruption but nothing about him being violent against his family. he even set himself up to get shot so his son can collect life insurance.

To go from that to blasting his son in the face with a shotgun is just too extreme. Even in the video that his son recorded not too long before he died (same hour I believe) you can hear murdaugh sounding jovial in the background.

Admittedly I've not seen all the evidence and I'm not even saying he's innocent but
With a case against his son and all the corruption shit how strange would it be if it was someone else.

If they were corrupt, it wouldn't be that strange if other people also hates his family.

Don't forget the law firm missing huge amount of $$$, the scheme with the dead nanny or whatever and telling the son to sue him then not giving him the insurance money award. Looks like a retarded crackhead.

I recall when his wife and son were killed in 2021 there was lots of discussion of it. It might have been in one of the cases of the missing and the murdered on Sherdog. At that time, it came out that he owned a boat that his son Paul was apparently operating in 2019 when he hit a bridge and killed a 19 year old woman. The family of the dead woman was suing Alex and a hearing in that matter was scheduled for June 10, 2021. When a person is being sued they have to provide financial records and those would have turned up several discrepancies.

The morning that his wife and son were killed, someone at the law firm he worked at questioned Alex about some payments for legal services that should have been paid to the firm that were paid to Alex instead.

When his wife and son were killed, there was speculation that the killer was after Paul for the death of the woman in the boating collision and his mother was collateral damage. There was also speculation that Alex had killed them and started the speculation to delay the hearing. Then Alex Murdaugh called authorities saying he was shot in the head while stopped on the side of a road changing a tire. This brought more speculation that he might be being targeted by some client he cheated and the gunman found only his wife and son home. Some of us speculated that Alex had planned to fake his own death or disappear but someone found him but it was eventually announced that he called for help. Eventually Alex told authorities that he had hired someone to kill him so his surviving son could collect the $10 million life insurance policy.

He also tested positive for barbiturates and opiates in his blood, the documents show. One of his attorneys had said he suffered from an opioid addiction for 20 years.
That probably explains where all of his money went.
But police quickly found out that Murdaugh had allegedly asked the man, Curtis Smith, a former client, to shoot and kill him so his surviving son could reap the benefits of a $10 million life insurance payout.

After all of that, it pretty much became the conclusion that Alex had killed his wife and son to gain time to try to find a way out. Shortly before Alex was shot, the partners in the law firm had confronted him about $792,000 in missing money.

The first witness called Friday, also outside the jury’s presence, was Jan Malinowski, president and CEO of Palmetto State Bank. Palmetto’s former president, Russell Laffitte, was convicted of six counts of financial fraud crimes in November.

Malinowski, who testified at Laffitte’s trial, told the court that Murdaugh’s mounting debt to the bank was regularly covered, without justification, by loans from Laffite.

In August 2021, two months after the murders, Murdaugh’s account had an overdraft of more than $350,000, Malinowski testified. Laffitte responded with a $400,000 transfer to the defendant’s account.
Murdaugh at the time owed the bank more than $4 million, Malinowski testified.

Alex Murdaugh seems to be a real piece of work.

Alex Murdaugh seems to be a real piece of work.

Are you sure he killed them on the same day as he was questioned about the payment? Because I remember seeing something that it was at another time.

regarding the idea that he killed them just to buy himself time it seems kinda of a weak motive especially considering he likely could have gotten a delay based on others reasons.

This video is kinda long 17 minutes but it's an entertaining/informative discussion on the motive and if there is any.

This is probably THE MOST intriguing true crime case ever.

There are so many angles to look at. He’s guilty AF though.

I think Murdaugh had run out of delaying tactics.

This is testimoney from the ongoing trial.
"Jeanne Seckinger, CFO of the firm formerly known as PMPED, testified outside the jury’s presence.

The morning of the murders, Seckinger confronted Murdaugh about $792,000 in missing funds, she said Thursday, testifying that legal fees should have been made payable to the law firm – renamed to Parker Law Group after Murdaugh’s ouster – and not to individual attorneys.

But Seckinger and other members of the firm realized in May 2021 they had not received a fee check stemming from a settlement signed in a case Murdaugh shared with another attorney, Seckinger testified, which was a concern."

He has a fuck ton of enemies and no real strong motive, some circumstantial evidence against him and no smoking gun, not saying he's innocent but does not look strong enough to get him convicted, especially when you consider it's beyond reasonable doubt.

I’ve been loosely following it. I’m confused by the motive the prosecution is proposing though. I understand he had some financial crimes that were about to be exposed. But he murdered his wife and son as a “distraction”? I’m not sure I follow the logic.

His son was a piece of shit who caused the family all kinds of trouble.

I don't think anyone has mentioned that a few people have stepped forward saying that he was a major force in drug running in the state. There is no end to the shit this guy has been in I just don't see the shootings as that much of a stretch.

If his son was a piece of shit that means that both of them had enemies, and even if he is capable of the act, to do it just to buy some time is a very weak motive. It doesn't even make sense.

If he killed them I'm certain it's for another motive.

There are two obvious reasons. One is money, the other is that authorities were closing in on him for all of his fuckery.

I watched the video and those three seem to see Alex as a weak person who wouldn't hurt a fly. I see him as a con man who has spent his life deceiving people.

I'm not familiar with the case. What's the chain of events?

Drug addicted shithead lawyer embezzles funds. His housekeeper "trips over the dog" and dies in his house. The housekeeper's settlement money was stolen by Mr. Shithead lawyer. Wife and one son get killed. Shithead lawyer hires a guy to shoot him, suffers superficial wounds, remaining son still alive. That's how it went down?

I imagine he wanted / needed money and sought to collect insurance payment for the dead wife, possibly son if the son was on the policy.

People who could possibly indict him on killing the housekeeper are dead. He stole the dead woman's money. He probably stood to get a nice check from his family getting smoked. He's a drug addicted criminal. Not far fetched to think he killed one person in his own home then killed or had his family members killed. Not a big stretch IMO.

If there was a financial motive to killing his family (in may 2021 I believe) it would have been revealed by now.

The prosecution are arguing that he killed them just to get out of or delay the embezzlement charges. Which first of all is completely bizarre and illogical and secondly indicates that they don't have a better or clearer motive.
