He has been a massive part of the boxing boom over here. Brought a lot of interest to the sport.

How is Al Haymon even in consideration?

Give any other promoter that much money and they'd do 100x better job. They wouldnt give us Fonfara/Smith on NBC primetime and then get axed from the network.

Matchroom Boxing is the only major promotion to make big profits off of major events this year.

did you just question Al Haymons contribution in terms of bringing boxing to networks with record breaking viewership?

His fundraising/salesmanship with investors was top notch.

His performance as a promoter was poor.

He tried to tell the courts he was a manager and that the networks were promoters.

It was a pretty interesting case but ultimately the courts shut that claim down.

Any Promoter could have with post-Olympic USA gold medal game with that kind of roster and funding. The Spence/Bundu fight didnt even have any promotion to go with it.

Haymon's sales and negotiating skills were good for getting funds and timeslots, but his performance was terrible.

adamek vs cunningham under Duva had zero promotion, a shitty timeslot, and nothing much around it going for it and hit 3.7 million viewers on NBC. Tyson Fury hit 1.7 million in the same slot. The weird thing about PBC is how they seemed to be doing so much right but getting so much wrong. With that kind of budget he should have been flattening viewership records, not keeping just slightly above the target line. He wasn't so much promoting as building a template for a good promotion then throwing money at it hoping it would stick, without ever altering the fact that it was still just a template. That's not promoting.

Wow just checked on 2012 it did at peak 4 million and the article states that golden boy did similar numbers

What happened to them why drop that momentum and why not do it more regularly like al haymon ?

I take then you feel Eddie Hearn is the more significant promoter of the year this year then ?

Because Al Haymon took over the market with PBC so NBC dropped Duva. That said Duva startd going South after Fury vs Cunningham when she started pushing Glazkov ... but I think she stated it was because she knew PBC was moving and she had to pack up shop soon enough. Also Fury wanted to stick to his ties in Europe.

I haven't been bothering to keep track of it for a while now, but if Hearn is the one responsible for the boxing boom in the UK/Ireland right now then yes he'd have to be. Then again, if the promoter is relying on big names to make the show for him then he's not a good promoter. A good promoter should be able to make the fighter big and boxing is severely lacking promoters who are capable of making fighters into names. Simply put there is a gaping lack of imagination in boxing.

On one hand Haymon is just putting fighters on shows and hoping they'll catch on without building a legacy/brand around them. The general public like characters and backstories, names will only stick with them if there's something there to make them stick. Joshua was already huge in the UK. I'm not sure how much credit a promoter deserves for taking on someone who was already famous. It goes back to something similiar with Arum taking on Ali after he won at the Olympics. It's a question of who really benefitted from the arrangement.

Al Haymon is technically an advisor, even though his fighters have posted tweets of cheques directly from him and referencing him as their matchmaker (cough Chavez Jr. cough). Even if we lump him in as a promoter, Hearn wins.
