Agree or Disagree? Izzy vs. Paula is a better matchup than Chris vs. Luke.

IT DOESN'T MATTER if you agree. I'm TELLING you what it is. First of all this really isn't a fair comparison because Weidman and Rockhold are from half a generation before Adesanya and Costa. Adesanya and Costa are soo good because Luke and Chris came before them. The fact of the matter is that the Brazilian and the Ni-Zealander would mop the floor with the American former champs because they've been training to beat those type of guys their entire short careers.

Some people say that when Weidman and Rockhold faced off that night was the strongest the 185 division has EVER been. Personally I don't agree with that and I believe a strong case can be made for todayto contenders. But even if that were true, Weidman and Rockhold weren't necessarily the 2 best 185ers. Yoel was ALWAYS there. Jacare was there. Even Mousasi was there.

With Adesanya vs. Costa you have 2 young, hungry, undefeated beast. Their striking is on a much higher level than Chris and Luke. People. May disagree because of the grappling prowess of Weidman and Rockhold but their grappling would not be AND wasn't good enough to keep them at the top. And both Adesanya and Costa would shrug off their td attempts. So says the Goshishun warrior!!!

Sure. Plus both Style Bender and Natty GOAT would smoke both guys in their primes...

Yeah, it’s really not but it’s a good fight.

just enjoy it for what it is broseph

Paula was pretty hot back in high school, but she went down the wrong path.

Hindsight is 20/20. Weidman was undefeated and just beat down Vitor while Luke was on a 5 fight finishing streak of all top 15 fighters. Skill for skill both guys were very well rounded in all areas. It was the most anticipated MW fight of all time excluding any Anderson fight. Israel vs Costa will just be an exciting striking match. We really don't know much about Costa still.

Nah Chris x Luke was closely contested. This is gonna be a one sided destruction, topped with another highlight reel knockout. I guarantee it.

Adesanya would batter both prime Weidman and Luke and Costa probably would to

You are right. Hindsight is 20/20 and I can see clearly. Like was on a 4 fight streak by the way and only 2 of those wins meant anything. An exciting striking match?? What more do you need???

We already know how Izzy vs Paula is going down, Paula will push forward and put Izzy on the backfoot until Izzy holds his ground and either picks him apart or gets tagged to the body and head until he can't take anymore.

Going into the Luke v Chris fight we didn't really know who was better on the ground, they both were fantastic. We didn't know who would be more physically imposing, and we didn't know who was truly the better striker. That fight had "who knows" written all over it.

And unsurprisingly, the fight played out in a similar fashion. A very very close fight up until Luke took over.

I say Luke v Chris was a more high level contest, Weidman was a tank in his prime similar to Costa. Except his chin was arguably better and he was a much better all around martial artist.

Prime Luke and Adesanya is kind of a wash to me, Izzy is obviously a better striker while Luke is the better grappler.

Adesanya vs Costa isn't anything special, I wanna see what this kid Shahbazyan can do in a couple of years, he smoked Tavares like nothing and he likely sparks Brunson too. He might be the real gem in that division.

But truth be told none of those fights were at the level of a Silva v Hendo fight. That fight doesn't get the shine it deserves, partly because Silva made it look so damn easy. It was one of those fights where two legitimate all time greats crossed paths, and became better for it. Hendo went on to win 7 of his next 8 fights and put on some of the greatest fights and finishes of all time.

I'm still not sure about Israel. He always looks hittable and not that sturdy. Sure, Silva, Whittaker and Romero all tried and failed but I still think someone's gonna find that chin sooner or later.

There has never been a tank at 185 the size of Costa. You say Weidman is better all around why??? Because Costa doesn't have to rely on grappling???

His striking is levels above Weidman. And he's not easy to get down. I'll say though. His style won't equate to longevity.

So who is unhittable???

Not just hittable. You can hit Romero and but he's not going down. Israel doesn't have the same chin as Yoel though.
Again, how many fighters are as durable as Yoel??? Israel can clearly take a punch though. Both Yoel and Israel have great defense as well.

Costa is the most entertaining fighter outta all of them, that's why any fight with him is more interesting. But I don't get the heat here - who cares? Why are you comparing these two match ups, specifically? What are we gaining, losing or learning picking one over the other?

Styles make fights. Out of the 4 if they all fought, can't see anyone going 3-0, with the possible exception of Izzy. Weisman would have a legit shot against Costa IMO.

That said maybe because I'm MMA starved rn, Izzy Costa seems much more appealing than CW LR.
