So why the weigh-in does not take place at least 30min -1hour before the fight ?

Am I wrong to excpect that would force a weight class change for all if not the most of the fighters
doing extreme weigh cutting ? Why not do that to stop weight cheating ?

Fighters are too dumb and would still cut weight and end up dehydrated and kill themselves if they got KOd.

Mainly because of dehydration decreasing your brain's ability to absorb impacts and making concussions more likely to occur and more severe when they do. It's also not possible to feasibly rehydrate in a 30min - 1 hour period without an IV, and even with one, it's not going to be effective enough for any responsible regulating body to accept.

Sure, you can argue that fighters would be aware of that fact and would realize that it's not worth doing, but when we're talking about ultra-competitive natured athletes competing in a sport like this, there are guys out there that would still do it to try and get an advantage. It would be dangerous as hell.

They can kick things off by weighing fighters a second time right before entering the cage purely for information purposes, i know i'd be pretty interested to know the in-cage weights of the fighters.

This is the only solution for the weight cutting problem, but the dumb fighters could injure themselves seriously, even dying. It's not like they will win a Nobel anytime soon.

there´s a business behind weight cutting

only explanation

if not, they would have done mandatory weigh ins for 7 days including fight night, with 6 months suspension for 1 fail, 2 years suspension for 2 fails and lifetime ban after the second fail

if you implement that, things would change, but there is ZERO interest in fighter´s health. money is what matters here

exactly. so why they are not doing that ?

ok but where is the money in that approach ?
you are saying UFC is earning more money because they unofficialy letting fighters to cut abnormal amount of weight just have that advantage on the fight night ?

they really should limit the # of lbs you can rehydrate. Should be somethng like 10% of body weight or something.

There are many ways to prevent weight cutting, some guy posted a bunch some time ago.

Weighing on the day, weighing several times before the fight and so on. But weight cutting is probably going to continue until someone dies.

They do ?
Is there any info on any recent weigh ins 30-60mins before the fight ?

I propose to add a 175lb class and delete the 170 and also a 195 class and restrict them to only 10 pound weight cuts during fight week but I also think they should not know who their opponent is until weigh ins instead of spending 3 months studying somebody they go out and show who can adapt to any situation etc etc. I mean really just weigh them when fight week starts and if they are 12 or 13 pounds over the limit find an alternate since they would not know who they was fighting anyway. Giving up 20% of their purse to some doesn't sting to bad but if they got no check at all they would be on weight and most of them are. Rarely does a weight issue happen considering how many fights they put on now. It is like the judges mess up every once and awhile and when they do the public goes off like they fuck up every 5 minutes, considering how many they have to judge it is not that bad. Really the public needs to watch the god damn fights and stop worrying about fucking weight cuts, salaries and god damn sponsors and when somebody is due to have a baby I men shit

How bout they start doing an additional weight check right before stepping in the Octagon; this number is the weight class they have to move up to within a year.

That way the UFC would move toward more realistic weights, over a year's time, without interfering with the current process. Their re-hydrate weight would still be a cut, but not very drastic in most cases. It would be their realistic weight to cut to.

Because people would still try to cut weight, and eventually someone would fuck up. And it would be too much bad news for the UFC if some stupid dude died in the cage because he was fucked up from weight cutting.

Unfortunately they have to lower the bar to meet the standards.

Only way I can see around this is weigth fighters for a whole week prior to the fight and they would always have to be inside (or a 10% margin) of their division weight.

If all the fighters cut weight we are we always crying about this? Everyone wold still fight the same people just at a higher weight.

Do fighters shit out everything before they weigh in?

The safer way to stop cutting weight by dehydration is to implement hydration test(s) as a part of the official weigh-in procedure. A participant has to pass this/these test(s) and make weight. This will ensure that a fighter have acceptable hydration level at the required weight.
