After watching the last few cards, one thing has become pretty clear.

None of them just go bam across the ring and the next second are on top of the guy with their opponent having no way out. No chance to strike or defend.

That's how you eat a knee or get sprawled in to you head on today's age. Changing levels in to a blast double is dangerous.

That doesn't change the fact that Khabib and Usman are able to take and keep down pretty much anyone if so they wish, going "bam across the cage" or grinding them against the cage, doesn't matter.

There's definitely some truth to this, but also MMA is the fastest evolving sport on the planet. So much has changed since GSP was controlling people on the ground. Fighters are a lot smarter off their backs and are a lot better at using wizards to get back to their feet

Yes. Johnny Hendricks got murdered already by the half the current top 10,Nick Diaz is a joke,Carlos Condit also got murdered by half current the top 10, Dan Hardy is a joke, Who the fuck would Thiago Alves even beat? Mat Hughes? Thats the guy with worse wrestling than Askren and about the same hands.

UFC Top 10:
Kamaru Usman - An elite wrestler
Tyrone Woodley - An elite wrestler who will KO you
Jorge Masvidal - An elite striker with very high level wrestling
Colby Covington -An elite wrestler
Robbie Lawler - A powerful striker with high level wrestling TD
Ben Askren - An elite wrestler
RDA -A very skilled and well rounded fighter

GSP Wins:
Nick Diaz - Doesnt know what wrestling is
Carlos Condit - Also doesnt know what wrestling is
Jake Shields - Never threw a punch that hurt
Josh Koshchek - A real low level version of Tyrone Woodley
Dan Hardy - Another striker who doesn't know what wrestling is
Thiago Alves - Just not good enough compared to current guys
BJ Penn - Half his size
OK... look at the names of the new breed you listed. Askren couldn't even get signed by the UFC when GSP was champ. Robbie got cut. And not one of the others have a better skill set than GSP. At one off, GSP is a better striker than everyone on that list, and he is a better mma wrestler than everyone on that list, plus he is better at game planning. Really, Colby might be the toughest opponent for him on that list. And Colby would get jabbed all night long. Colby is NOT going to pressure GSP or out box him or take him down.

Tell me more about these wizards

Most pathetic and biased post ive seen in the past month.

Well no fighters are currently as handsome as GSP, so it’s no surprise that other fighters do not want to get taken down and held by them as much.

GSP was a special talent.

I believe his td timing was based off of his kyokushin experience.

In kyokushin, there is a cadence you use in the back and forth, similar to fencing. Some strategies involve lulling your opponent into a pattern, then interrupting them with a well timed strike.

Watching GSP, he became very adept at interrupting his opponent with a takedown. GSP got so good at it that he could even interrupt a defensive back step with a takedown (Koscheck fight for example).

That sort of timing is rarely seen in MMA, another great example was Fedor vs Nog 3, where Fedor showed exemplary takedown timing.

GSP's expressiveness, balance and agility was on another level.

THAT SAID! Those guys he was taking down were from another era and weren't great at all at defending takedowns, sprawling, clinch grappling.

Do you see him doing what GSP did? Not really. Askren and Khabib drag guys down by hanging on them. Usman is a bit different but not by much.

None of them just go bam across the ring and the next second are on top of the guy with their opponent having no way out. No chance to strike or defend.
No doubt nobody mixed it up or had level changes as dialed in as GSP.

If I had to pick the closest second I would say it's Edgar. He's level changes are sick but he still chain wrestles more to get takedowns then GSP did.

GSP is the WW GOAT. And I'd still favour a prime GSP over any current WW, purely because he actually uses all the tools fluidly, he'd confuse any of the current crop of wrestlers with his change ups. A really special guy in his prime.
