Are the times Beijing time zone or another?
Beijing. 12 hours ahead of EST
if you order the stream, do you have to pay for each mat individually or do you have access to all mats?
The ultimate question.
From everything I'm reading, it appears you have to purchase each mat individually, which is total bullshit.
Anyone know if they will be posting the mat assignments? I'm not shelling 60 bucks to manually switch screens and hope I don't miss a match I wanted to see.
IBJJF does this so much better. Only one event every 2 years, and a shitload of money, you'd think they could do better.
In their defense, Abu Dhabi Combat Club is not a media production company. They just put on grappling events, and if it's streamed then it's because a third party obtains the rights to do it. Considering that this event is in China, and that there's not a huge international market for competitive grappling, it's hard to blame them too much for the lack of an efficient stream, especially since their business model is not contingent upon broadcast rights (as opposed to an organization like Metamoris).
Are you implying that they actually have a business model?
Funny. Yeah, I guess that's the point. You don't care much about annoyances like customer service when your main goal is just to get some light entertainment for you and a hundred of your rich pals.
*Swats peasants away.. Shoo grappling fans!
You sound like you know more than I do, but how hard is it to have broadcast rights to your own freakin' event??
Couldn't a random 15 year old computer nerd get an hd camcorder on a tripod and record action between mat 1 and 2 depending on which mat has most action at the moment and stream it online??
You would think in 2013 this would be fairly easy, but maybe I am way off.
Think they will put out mat assignments? I will pay $20 if I can watch the heavy boys fight
No, that would be an impossible feat, brah.
No mat assignments at ADCC. They just go and whenever there's a finish the next match stars rght away on whatever mat is free.
You will be forced to watch only light weights do double guard pulls and get caught in 50/50 AND LIKE IT, brah.
It is that easy in theory, but having a webcam for a hundred people on your little Ustream page is not the same as delivering a quality stream for 10,000 paying customers from around the world. So, automatically you need people who kinda sorta know what they're doing enough to make sure the stream doesn't break down, and that the billing company isn't too shady or expensive. If there's 3 mats then you need 3 cameras minimum, plus a couple of tech guys to handle the stream and some kind of producer to supervise everything to make sure the cameramen stay out of the way of the competitors and don't block the audience sight lines. And holding the event in China makes everything way worse because you're almost certainly going to have to use local Chinese equipment and maybe labor, and then the Chinese internet protocols are all different, and there's a language barrier, etc.
few minutes to start the fights right ?
In about 50 minutes.
cant wait; slamming is allowed, heel hooks/reaping, negative points for pulling/jumping guards.......
