Ace Combat 7 anyone?

I finished it, then stopped before they released the 3rd DLC mission. The feel of flight wasn't the same as the PS3 game where you could upgrade the plane's various attributes. Couldn't feel the speed and acceleration. Crashed into the ground a few times because of overestimating the acceleration.

A little while back during coronavirus time, there was a Famitsu video stream where Kono & Company sounded like they had something for an anniversary on the way, but didn't feel like it was a good time to announce it.

So as someone who havent played any AC game would you recommend it? I have flying experience in Battlefield but this game is different. My main goal is mostly online playing but i see people are really good. If so, any tips for total beginner? Reason why i would play it is just because i love fighter jets so much

This is the finest jet fighter video game series I'm aware of, so highly recommended. I played the PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and now this PS4 game. It's fun. You'll get the hang of Expert Controls. Pretty much 360 degree flight freedom within boundaries.

I'd suggest playing single player story mode for the varied missions, unlock the F-22 and whatever else you like. If you play online, you will get your ass handed to you at first and there will be lots of toxic players you cross paths with.

The way it works is, you have an aircraft tree where you must unlock a branch and purchase whatever's in your path to keep unlocking more planes and parts. The bottom branch of the tree are only unlockable if you play online and those parts are only usable online and you will need whatever upgrade to your plane and weapons to stand a chance because for sure everyone else will have everything maxed out.

I don't think the PS4 game has anywhere as many licensed planes as the defunct PS3 game did. I think last year, Kotobukiya released 1/144 scale plastic model kits of the AC fictional planes. I think Hasegawa has 1/72 scale AC planes.

In general with this series, planes classified as fighters do more damage to air targets, attackers do more damage to ground targets, and multiroles are in the middle. There are a variety of special weapons that have advantages against certain types of targets. If you want to S rank missions, you need a balance of wiping out enough targets and within a certain amount of time. There are also enemy aces that appear when certain conditions are met. If you rush and destroy them, you get a medal and/or unlock stuff.

In some missions, you have to be mindful of your ammo and know which targets you need more than one missile to destroy.

Have not tried this series in some time.

Wish they would do another Apache : Air Assault game or at least make the original backwards compatable.

I just got it. I played 6 on Xbox 360, and so far enjoying 7. I have PSVR and it is pretty crazy to play it in VR mode. Kinda wish I had a Joystick

Well that was so informative. I have seen on yt that full single player gameplay is 7+ hours. Does that means if i earn parts for plane i can use them online, or i must grind separately online for them? I would really try hard to learn and fly good to woop ass online. Any tips to improve flying and become better is welcome. I dont have game yet, but maybe once its on discount i might try to get it.

I think the single player parts unlocked are really really low level improvements. The parts you can only start unlocking if you play online are only usable online according to the description. In the previous game, you could equip acceleration, power damage, and homing parts for your missiles, and equip speed and acceleration parts for your plane, but max 7 parts total can be equipped.

To be good against other human players, you basically have to manuever so you are behind your target and both are moving in same direction before you fire or else you will likely miss and waste ammo. Some special missiles with extra homing parts are known to make a U-turn and follow your target and there's a controller button you can hold down to switch camera view to see the missile's point of view.

The thing with grinding is if you only play single player, upon finishing the game once, you will have earned enough credits to buy an end of the branch plane like F-22 or maybe Su-37 or Pak-Fa, but they say you earn a lot of credits faster by playing online. I never tried online yet because I don't pay for PSN to enable online play. Single player mode gives you a tiny amount of credits each mission.

In the prior game, the parts I equipped were usually plane speed, plane acceleration, missile power, missile homing, missile speed. For player vs. player, you will need speed for plane and speed and homing for your missiles. Plane manueverability parts are also good if you have space for them. Sometimes I equipped air brakes to help make sharp U-turn backflips to point my plane at enemy plane and fire. If you watched Top Gun, you will know Maverick's move to brake hard, let enemy fly past him, then lock on.

I think in at least one mission, you will fight the enemy ace who is very hard to hit and you must survive, manage your ammo, and connect enough missiles to do enough damage to the enemy ace to make him retreat.

There are also missions where you must fly into a narrow tunnel, shoot some ICBM before it launches, and escape. I think maybe every game had a tunnel mission.

After you learn the basics, you will need to learn which special weapons have an extra damage advantage over certain targets, which have longer lock on range, which have wider area of damage. The LASM has very long lock on range and does extra damage to ships and submarines. The MBPM didn't have great homing, but when it connects, it would create a sphere of explosion that would damage or destroy anything near the target. The FAEB had a big area of damage, but since it's a fuel air bomb, it didn't do enough damage to tanks or missile launchers.

Also, to be good, you must be mindful of the radar and toggle close range and wide view often because you don't know when some high value target will appear far away and not come close to you and sometimes disappear off the map.

If you don't want to buy AC7 yet, try the PSP games or PS2, PS1 games. Keep in mind, the controls and other game mechanics improved over time.

Alot of information for total beginner, but flying tips you wrote was so good i didnt wanted to stop reading. Does game help you flying during game, help with all that tips you wrote? What you think how much i would need to become not decent, but good pilot? :) Thank you aloot

There was one shitty Ace Combat game for PS3 that they described as flying "on rails". You don't have that in AC7. There's either Novice or Expert flight controls. I always use Expert, which has climb, descend, yaw left, yaw right, and other stick lets you turn your pilot's head to look left and right without affecting flight. I tried Novice controls for an in game challenge and it's not intuitive and I crashed a bunch of times when you're low to the ground and try to peel away but it turns your nose down instead.

After you use Expert controls a lot, it will become automatic second nature since it's mostly the left stick. The main thing is breaking hard to make a sharp turn. Also important is looking at the radar to see which way the enemy is pointed and moving.

I think the game has a tutorial or early missions where they walk you through various beginner things via radio.

I think rookies have a hard time shooting down enemy planes because they just lock on and fire, but you really need to manuever to get behind him and both be moving in the same direction, then lock on and fire otherwise you will miss a lot.

There are some ground targets where you must climb up high and sort of dive down sharply and then fire because they are surrounded by bunkers.

Also, new with AC7, you can fly into clouds, and there will be strong wind that affects your steering.

There are some missions where radar jamming prevents missile lock on so you must use guns or use guns to destroy the jammers first.

I played Blazing Angels 1 and 2. Is it anything like that, control / feel wise or is it more like flight sim ?

So there is novice/ expert flying controls, difficulty is same for every player? Hopefully to get game soon, since i missed discount :/
Becoming a great pilot takes time, dedication and practice. What im afraid of if i try online i saw people spin camera so fast in order to follow target which i think is hard. I have back button attachement so i hope it might help with flying commands

Playing through it now on mission 16, really enjoying it, haven't played a game like this since ace combat 3 I believe on ps2

I never played that.

Ace Combat is basically 360 degree flight freedom with good selection of real life planes and some fictional planes where you chase and shoot down enemy planes that don't want to be shot down and try to shoot you down. You also destroy ground targets, fly thru narrow tunnels/ravines, escort VIP transports, provide air cover for ground forces.

AC3 was the one where USA got a version that omitted a lot of the story where the Japanese version had like some deep anime story with all fictional planes. That was PS1 with spherical radar and still pretty crude flight feeling.

Couldn't have been that one then must have been Ace Combat 4, it was defo ps2, I remember there being a gold squadron of enemy fighters at the end of the game

I don't think online has difficulty setting but the difficulty varies by your human opponents. Be warned there are a lot of really toxic players online that will prey on weaker competition. If you are a slight threat to their dominance, they will remove you from their lobby/room.

Single player has higher difficulty settings that get unlocked and also unlock things if you finish the game and/or finish each mission with S rank.

I think holding down the triangle button is what switches to camera view from missile's point of view, but this way you can't see where you're flying so might crash. People use this view when they shoot the special missiles that make a U-turn to chase a target that's now behind you.

I think there are two different preset button configurations. I think at some point in the series, they switched the button config, but still allow the old timers to use the old config.

If you want something different, something futuristic, some planes can shoot a laser beam of limited time duration, but longer range or railgun. With the laser beam, it isn't automatic lock-on, so you must keep your nose pointed at the moving target to maximize the damage, which leaves you a sitting duck.

Those PS2 games were great. When AC5 and ACZ came out, I passed thinking AC04 was enough, but years later I changed my mind, couldn't find 5 & Z brand new, so had to buy used. I even bought component cables for PS2 which greatly improved the video quality.

I pre-ordered AC7 so got the free ACZ, I think, for PS4 digital but didn't play it much yet.

I never bought any XBOX, but did buy AC6 used hoping in the future there'd be some way to play it.

What I liked about AC04 was the missions had a really big playable area and ample time to fly here and take out targets then fly all the way over there, etc.
