I kind of agree in theory. Of course Conor and the UFC are attempting to have their cake and eat it too:
When talking about the Khabib rematch, these were two lightweights who just didn’t cut weight.
When talking about a potential Masvidal fight, wow Conor looked great at 170.
When talking about the record books, Conor now claims to have knockouts in three divisions.
Generally I don’t see the problem with making matches at the most appropriate weight for the two fighters. In boxing guys jump around in weight throughout their career and nobody makes a big deal out of it. In MMA we treat it like they’re competing in a different sport.
