They all seemed hunky dory at the end. Like it was all water under the bridge. That was yet another bizarre part. Jan has a big heart for forgiving her parents, because I personally wouldn't have.

Jan's mom has some serious issues. I mean the way she was smiling while remembering the affair? It's like she still looks on those memories fondly. She showed zero remorse or shame for any of this until a split second at the VERY end. She was just so...blase about the whole thing, almost in a sociopathic way. Any rational mom would be a mess while talking about what that monster did to her daughter, but she was so emotionless. It was bizarre.

Went into this thinking "oh boy, another pedo I'll want to reach through and strangle". Ended with "oh boy, a couple of mormons, oblivious to how the world works, that I want to strangle".

Dad's clearly in the closet (I guess partially out now), but this whole thing is more on the brainwashing church. These people were so convinced they wouldn't get into heaven that they sacrificed their daughter. I kept having to remind myself that this is a real crime documentary.

Both really got conned into letting the guy sleep in the daughters bed that he kidnapped for 4 days a week because it was part of his 'therapy'?I don't believe that one bit. I think it went like "If you don't let me sleep in her bed, I'm going to tell everyone our secrets and ruin your lives" so they sacrificed their child to him.

The parents were so fucking stupid that after I got done watching it, I had to hop online and see if the story was even real or if it was one of those fake documentaries. Apparently it's real but I still have a hard time believing that parents can be that dumb.

Jan's mom even cashed in on the whole ordeal by writing a book about the ordeal. So she goes from allowing her daughter to be kidnapped twice because she didn't want anyone to know about her infidelity to wanting everyone in the world to know about it? She's also gone on 'tour' to talk about the ordeal. She's all about cashing in on it.

Surprisingly, Jan has had a fairly successful acting career and has a pretty big IMDB page. Was even in Iron Man 3.

What's baffling to me is that they were aware that this guy wants to marry their 13-year-old daughter, yet they seem to not know or even suspect at this time that he had been abusing her already? It was played as if when Jan realizes she's been lied to about the aliens she finally tells her family the truth about everything that had happened and that they were utterly shocked by it.
