I just stopped laughing long enough to post this.

I was flipping through the channels when I passed ABC and this new show with Heather Graham (hottie). She was talking to some guy about her new boyfriend telling him that her new boyfriend is an expert in brazilian jiu jitsu. So naturally I paused to watch.

The guy breaks into fits of laughter and proclaims "Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?? That's like the gayest sport in the world!!"

Cut to Heather and her friends (including 2 gay guys) watching about a dozen guys rolling at the local academy to the tune of YMCA by the village people, with Heather thinking in her head "Oh my god my boyfriend practices the gayest sport in the world!!" and her 2 gay friends grinning ear to ear watching the action on the mat.

God as my witness it was priceless comedy (and I do BJJ 4 days a week). I don't know if anyone else saw it but I guess it is called "Emily's reasons why not". Worth downloading just for that part.

I was gay before I started BJJ. Now it has made me super gay 6 months down the line. ;) Just kidding. Yeh to be fair it probably does look gay to the unknown eye.

I suppose the only people who can truly appreciate BJJ, as a sport and combat art, are those who practice it and enjoy doing it. What's boring or "gay-looking" to most people is simply beautiful to me...a battle of physically trained bodies, intellectually honed strategies, and experience-driven instincts, all flowing together with the fighters' keen understanding of what the human body and its natural weaponry can and cannot do. And no, I'm not gay.

Hell, even your typical non-training "fight fan" would rather see strikes, teeth flying, and knockouts...hence the stand-em-up-if-they've-been-on-the-ground-too-long trend of MMA lately.

F-ck 'em. Let them think what they want. BJJ's effectiveness and toughness is obvious to anybody who trains it. Let them step onto the mat and try it for themselves sometime.

Or perhaps not. I'd rather keep BJJ as the realm for the hardcore dedicated grappler/fighter. Let the critics have fun at their local TMA McDojo...or in front of their TV's watching garbage like, "Emily's" whatever the f-ck that was.

there're tons of sports that make no sense or look weird to people who don't understand them (try watching rugby or something if you don't know the rules) who cares though if you enjoy the sports keep doing it i've heard all kinds of ridiculous comments about bjj anywhere from how it wouldn't work if your opponent has a shot gun or if 5 people jump you all at once to whats the point of rolling around on the matt with guys all day answer is because its a great way to stay in shape, its a very competitive sport (if someone doesn't understand competition you can't really explain it to them), and because its fun so keep doing it because you like it and let everyone else lay on the couch and get fat

Yeah its real gay when you get your arm broken, your ACL ruptured and your neck snapped.

lol

Yeah, this sport is hard to appreciate if you don't know what is going on.

BJJ is gay?? atl least we don't wear singlets!! *cough* other grappling art...

Well, at least we're all secure enough here to get a laugh out of it without feeling all defensive and insecure... right? Er....

Seriously, it was really funny. It could have been merely stupid, but that bit was well done. I was howling with laughter. If and when the show comes onto bit torrent I'll edit out just that minute or two and post it. I think the more easy going amongst us will think it amusing.

It's funny, but I think it hurts BJJ's image. Any time one of my friends sees UFC or pride, they call it ":eek::eek: fighting" because they "hump" each other half the time. this is kinda promoting the same image...

A few of my friends thought bjj was 'gay' until I showed them the basics. Now they can't get enough of it.

ignorance, bjj is one beautiful art. im straight as an arrow and f**k ppl who cant understand it. most ppl cant, even my wife. she thought it was guys having sex, then i showed her basics i learned, still thought it was gay. then i let her tap me out via arm bar, not gay anymore. hehe

Regardless how much most of us here enjoy BJJ it is always going to look like two guys hugging if you don't understand what's going on

A person thinks bjj or subwrestling (even gayer!) are gay: easy solution = you rear naked choke them, they will change their minds I promise you!;)

i'd say wrestling looks gayer at face value, but the gayest has got to be that turkish oil wrestling. getting lubed up before getting sweaty just strikes me as a bit too 'super'.

When you get rear mount, don't slip that "3rd hook" in. That would be really gay.

Heather Graham is only worth paying attention to when she has her tits out. You should all have learnt this by now.

As if the author of the thread was actually flipping through the channels and magically caught this moment. We all know he was watching the entire show from start to finish.

It's pretty worrying that if two men are in physical contact, people think of it as being gay.

Personally, the only things I think of as being gay are: being attracted to men, or having a cock in your ass (or vice-versa).

If BJJ was actually naked men having sex with each other, then maybe they'd have a point.
