    Man, I remember when I canvassed black neighborhoods in South LA in support of restoring voting rights to ex-felons. It was like running into a brick wall. By the 10th time I got shut down with some version of “Worst idea ever,” I quit the campaign.

    There's a minority that are maybe like 5% of the place who run those neighborhoods and everyone just complies. I have a buddy who was(still is) a gay black guy who was a Baltimore cop. He tried to "make a difference" for his first few years and then had the good sense to just take his paycheck and eventually leave that shithole.
