So in another thread on the board discussing tapping, I found it interesting how many people didn't know that unintended (screaming) verbal submissions were part of the rules.
We don't see it very often, but on Friday night during Bellator 135 during the Warren-Galvao match, we saw the rare unintended (screaming) verbal submission.

You can verbally submit without saying "Tap" or physically tapping.
As soon as the pain is high enough that the fighter can't effectively verbalize (IE, screaming in pain), it's considered to be identical to being unable to protect yourself and the referee's responsibility to step in and stop the fight.
Notice the ref was Big John McCarthy, so this isn't some novice but a very experienced MMA referee.
The idea is that you can't say "tap" if you're screaming, just like you can't tap if you're using your hands to shield your head while someone is pounding on you, and you can't tap if you're blinking in and out of consciousness.
So now you know!
