I honestly imagine that a good percentage of people from here can't spell it correctly.

It doesn't look right, even when it is, so for brevity and ease, we usually use ABQ. As long as the zip code is right, it'll get figured out.

Protip: Do not confuse ABQ with Abiquiu which is about 1hr north of Santa Fe, and an even more godforsaken hellhole than Albuquerque
