In case anyone is interested, I've been looking for more options for my open guard in nogi and mma, while my back is on the ground and my head away from knees and punhces and I found this... Eddie bravo also takes about something really similar in on of his mts chapters... He just pulls half, but Mullins version is more developed and leads into a high percentage sweep...

hmm... I'm going to have to try that first one. It's embarassing how bad my open guard game is against a standing opponent.

Tripod sweep remains the greatest sweep in BJJ ever.

Tripod sweep is great, but nothing beats its cousin the tomahawk sweep! I was tomahawking blues and purples left and right as a white belt, even got some black belts with it! Problem is I used to get leg draged often against good guys once they knew my game! I still go for it nowadays, in combitnation with the classic tripod sweep, but If I don't get it fast i stablish some kind of guard, either X, RDLR or anaconda guard.

Tripod and tomahawk sweeps are the jab and cross of the open guard vs standing. I really like what Brandon taught in the video above. Another good starting point of open guard in no gi vs a standing opponent is shin to shin guard...

It is, and I do use it... But this specific option seems also great for mma because it lets you stay on your back relatively safe from strikes, which is obviously really nice!
