For title fights
First round is 1:00. Winner gets one point. Loser gets zero.
30 second rest
Second round is 2:00. Winner gets two points. Loser gets zero.
30 second rest
Third round is 3:00. Winner gets three points. Loser gets zero.
One minute rest
Fourth round is 4:00. Winner gets four points. Loser gets zero.
One minute rest. Tally the score. If the differential is more than five points, declare a winner. If it is less than five points, go to the fifth round.
Fifth round is 5:00. Winner gets five points. Loser gets zero.
(1) Fights need to be shorter. The longer the fight, the more stalling and inactivity. We've accepted this as "normal" but it should not have to be that way. There have been many exciting 25 minute fights but for each of these there are dozens of less inspiring ones. Did we really need to see 25 minutes of Usman-Woodley or Jones-Smith? The winner was clear way before the 15 minute mark.
(2) The shorter the fight, the less stalling and inactivity.
(3) In the beginning rounds, fighters will by necessity be looking to win the round quicker thus more action.
(4) Shorter rounds will lead to less cardio issues.
(5) It incorporates the PRIDE score the entire fight criteria. In many instances, the winner of the fifth round will win the fight. If it need not go to the fifth round, its because the winner already won 3 rounds two of which are the third and fourth round. He was winning towards the end.
(6) Even if the fight remains boring. it's just a 10 to 15 minute borefest as opposed to 25.
Non title fights
