hey guys, I keep getting told that I need to go watch golf because I didn’t appreciate usmans performance over the weekend and that wrestling is a part of the sport.

Now I may be uninformed so I’m just double checking with my Sherbros... where I can watch wrestling with walls involved. Every wrestling match I’ve watched involves takedowns and scrambles on an open mat.
Is there some other type of Nebraskan wrestling that I haven’t found?

Curious to how enjoyable that would be to watch, and maybe these mma fighters need to watch more of this wrestling to understand a way to counter such a devastating fight style.

Go watch GSPs career start to finish.

Not a wrestler but are you trying to suggest that what Usman did isn’t a legitimate tactic in MMA competition?

Its boring , but wall and stall is basically the same concept as a wrestler pinning someone to the ground , except that its easier to do and limits the pinners offensive options .
TLDR - wall = floor , pinned .

Its legit under this current flawed reward system yes. We should reward wall&stall and lay&pray with 10-10....usmans forced to develope his game, problem solved

"a few questions about wrestling" = "where are walls involved, Nebraska?"

odd title choice

I agree it is boring, but people always seem to blame the person doing it and not the person who’s job it is to prevent It from happening.

Why should Usman get blamed for doing his job when Masvidal should learn how to wrestler better and get stronger.

I wouldn’t be opposed that, although it will still be subjective as it’s not like Usman only held Masvidal down with absolutely no action. When he had Masvidal down he did unload with some pretty good ground and pound. At least in my opinion.

Edit: my point is I just don’t think implementing that change is problem solved. Usman mixes up the wall n stall tactics pretty good with decent action so then it becomes a question of how much wall n stall warrants a 10-10? You could say any amount is too much but I just don’t think that’s realistic.

Even the kids that saying you should watch golf didn't like the main event. They just say that to troll you. I mean, no one can like that 25min of footsie and hugfest. But it's funny to make fun of StreetJuda fans.

It sounds like what you are asking about is wrestling adapted to MMA. In traditional wrestling (like what we learn in high school) there are no walls, and I am unfamiliar of any Olympic-style wrestling that does. Mark Coleman and Randy Couture were two of the first to use the cage against their opponents to tire them, maintain control of the opponent's body, and incorporate infghting and dirty boxing. Liddell also was one of the first who used the cage to help his sprawl and climb back to his feet.

There are tons of great YouTube channels dedicated to this MMA-hybrid wrestling, just type in whatever aspect you are curious to learn more about.

TL,DR traditional 'folk' wrestling doesn't use walls; it's an MMA adaptation used to maintain body control of an opponent and work for a more advantageous position (or stall when you are exhausted, but want minimal risk of having damage imposed upon you).

No, it isn't. They allow it, but it is stalling, pure and simple, and if you aren't doing anything, they should break it up. It turns a fight into gay love... I ain't paying for that.

If you support that shit you are supporting the death of the sport.

ps... I'm all for grappling as long as it's used to progress toward a conclusion. A 25 minute hug ain't getting it done.

as a former college wrestler we never once practiced with walls.. that being said if you go to an MMA gym they probably will practice pummeling against the cage.. pummeling and digging for underhooks is a huge part of folkstyle wrestling so good NCAA wrestlers will have an edge there. Usman is a 1x or 2x D2 champion so he's got a very solid folkstyle wrestling base. Just watching pummeling drills. I believe it's practiced a lot in freestyle wrestling too but I never trained for a freestyle match.

I blame it on Usman and Jorge.. Jorge intentionally backed up to the fence because when he was taken down in the open mat Usman was doing some solid GNP work on him... Usman also could've landed more clinch strikes.. I mean really, Jorge was not going to land anything serious from there especially after he gassed.

Gives one sentence explanation & offers TLDR.

I don’t support it, and I would say there is definitely a discussion to be had about how to prevent that but until then, it’s unfortunately a very real tactic to use.

I think part of the problem is blaming “wrestling” for “inability to execute wrestling”. In folk style wrestling you have to constantly move and work to improve position...if not you get warned then penalized...wrestling matches are not allowed to continue without action...so the problem is not wrestling...the problem is either the guy who can’t finish or the guy who cant counter or both. They should break up the action when it stalls out, but if there are strikes being thrown, or attempts to improve, sometimes it doesn’t look great, but I can promise you if you are in a fight and engaging in a battle against someone else...you will feel like you are exerting every ounce of energy to improve position or defend.. Anway that’s all. I also wrestled in college, so I’m speaking from a lot of experience.
