A death in the octagon

Dana would find someone to put the blame on for sure.

"This fucking goof should have never been allowed to become a referee."

"The goof should have pulled out"

Depends on who it is and what position on the csrd.

No it's not.

People driving cars x time spent driving / number of injuries is WAYYYY less than

People fighting in the UFC x time spent fighting / number of injuries

The elements that you are missing are "time" and "number of people", once you factor this into your statistics the real math speaks true.

Otherwise you could say any activity that has resulted in at least one death is more dangerous than fighting, which is absurd.
No one has died in the octagon.

If I can get 30-40k I'll throw my carcass at Rumble, only if they pay my hospital bills afterwards.
LOL@carcass! tbh if I could pay off all my debt by getting starched by the first punch I'd probably do it too.

JUST BLEED

they’ll revive them by dosing them with EPO.

It's going to happen sooner or later unfortunately, they have more fight cards than ever, sooner or later someone is going to die (either in the cage or in a hospital later). UFC has surely discussed this behind the scenes, and when it happens they'll probably just do what all immoral companies do: deny accountability, pretend to be all about fighter safety (despite pressuring guys into fighting with injuries, and allowing some guys to use PEDs) and do a PR fundraiser for the dead fighter's family.

If all else fails they will use the "independent contractor" argument made famous by the wwe. They will have zero legal liability but expansion to new markets would be extremely difficult the next 10 or so years.

Some more predictions: the news will show footage of the fight not fully understanding what is going on and it will turn in to a left-right issue.

they probably have life insurance on the fighters payable to the UFC

Has anyone been paying attention to how the UFC operates and fan reaction?

Dana will find a way to blame the fighter through the media that suckles on their knees before him while he heaps empty platitudes about the sport on the masses.

Result? The UFC saves face as media covers Dana being the good guy while same media will put out articles blaming the fighter.

Why would they do this? Because it ties everything off nice and neat. The UFC knows fans already blamed other dead fighters before including one related to weight cutting and never questioned the mechanics of combat sports. They control virtually all of the media the fandom consumes creating an echo chamber.

I hope it never happens but my stomach is already turning from the spin that will be put on such a situation.

If it ever happens I hope the UFC is dragged in front of congress and hopefully Dems are in charge because Reps won't do jack about any of it no matter how bad it is.

Cut the broadcast, debate ensues on the news and espn, then the show goes on.

To die from head trauma it would have to be a case where the fighter took a lot of damage in training just prior to the fight and then took a prolonged beating in the fight or got brutally koed. Fights aren't long enough; they get stopped too fast for a normally healthy fighter to get beaten to death.

Also UFC-caliber gyms don't let fighters with bad concussions or health problems fight like you get in smaller promotions, a couple weeks ago I saw some 0-0 dude get brutally koed by an uppercut from some 0-3 dude. He was completely unresponsive for 40 seconds and took him like 10 minutes to make it out of the ring. At one point he tried to leave and fell back down plus he was bleeding from the nose. Pretty much guaranteed dude had been knocked out recently in sparring or was shot to begin with because it was still fairly early in the fight; guys like that get filtered out before the UFC

Most likely scenario is some HW with a preexisting heart condition slips past the screening and gets a heart attack and dies but even that's not easy with all the medical personnel on standby.

No one has died in the octagon.
exactly

No one has died juggling knives, but it's hardly a safer activity than playing slot machines at the casino (of which the elderly die at all the time)

that's why you need to adjust it for time spent doing the activity / people who do the activity / type of injury etc

Ari would be pissed cause he paid 4.2 billion.

They will point out all the people who have died in a similar fashion in Boxing, Anerican Football, Baseball, Hockey, etc.

The best thing they can do is make sure the pre-fight medical clearance is thorough as fuck, especially as it pertains to cardiac clearance and stroke/clotting issues. All the MMA related deaths I had heard of seemed to include a medical condition that could have been caught with thorough testing.

They should also do baseline concussion testing and then test fighters before fights.
fighting (and specifically taking many blows to the head) after a recent concussion is very dangerous.

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

Throw me in there and you'll find out,
Best post by far

I think at this point ufc has been big enough for long enough that we could take a death in the ring without much backlash. Its understood by both fighters that it could happen, and they agree to fight for money. Its also not common and infact hasent happened once in 20 years of ufc.
