Do MMA judges ever score rounds 9-9 without any points being deducted from penalties?
I'd imagine the basis on scoring would be similar to the following, please correct me if any of this is false.
9-9 - back and forth round with both fighters having near-equal damage and/or control.
10-10 - round does not provide enough action to render a score.
10-9 - One fighter is winning at least the majority of the round.
10-8 - One fighter dominates the round and inflicts visible damage.
10-7 - One fighter dominates the round, knocking his opponent down multiple times and inflicting massive damage.
If judges more actively utilized their choices of round scoring I think the ten point must system is relatively effective. Therefore, it's not the system that is the problem; it is the judging.
