I recently underwent a 7 day fast comsuming only water and 1 32g protein shake mixed with water nightly. I did no exercise while on the fast.

Below are the results
Weight lbs % body fat Fat lbs LMM
Tuesday 07/06/2006 234.00 27.30% 63.88 170.12
Saturday 10/06/2006 224.00 26.08% 60.03 163.97
Monday 12/06/2006 221.00 25.40% 53.13 164.87
Tuesday 13/06/2006 218.00 22.30% 48.61 169.39

Loss/gain 16.00 5.70% 15.27 0.73

I am now going to start introduce only fruit and protien (shakes with water) into my diet for the next seven days.

Sorry for the mix up. After I posted the info the numbers and colums got screwed up.
The first # is the date, then weight, % of body fat. fat in lbs then LEan muscle mass

The result show how much was lost or gain

How are you taking your Bodyfat measurements because a 15lb drop in bodyfat in 1 week doesn't seem realistic. None the less, congrats on the fast, I've heard many good things about fasting for a few days every once in a while.

There are healthier ways to lose weight. Do you plan on exercising or are you just going to keep starving yourself/keeping your body in fat-storage mode?

I do the electircal impedence method. I know that seems like a lot but this method send a small electric current through the body. Muscle, fat, bones etc all have a different resistence and this give you the reading. Some of the fat I was told is contained in the bowels and intestines. And with out giving graphic details you can imagine how much of that I got rid of in a week.

YEs I only did not exercise for this week due to the fact I did not want my body to cannabalize itself.

It has been shown that if done properly the body dose not go into fat storage mode. The first 48 hrs the body uses up all the carbs stored in your baody as fuel, the next 48 hoursit switches to fat and protien (muscle) after that it uses fat. AFter the fats you start to introduce food (low fat) slowly back into your daily life. Results are there. I will post the pics as soon as I can. I am not that technically advanced yet.

Are you talking about the weight scales that supposedly give you a BF% reading? If so, my experience with them is this, they don't work. I had one and it consistently told me that my BF% was over 30%! In reality I'm around 10%, according to the professional that took my BF% with calipers. I

OK, just keep in mind that the impedance bodyfat scales will give you different bodyfat readings based on hydration. So they tend to not be very precise as an actual measure of bodyfat but work well to keep track of changes in body composition assuming your hydration level stays relatively consistent.

I'm interested in what kind of progress you make. You should start a training log in strength and power to track your progress. I'm not over-weight and even if I was I probably wouldn't try to lose weight the way you are, but I'm still interested...

How long until you resume normal eating and exercising habits?

What was your diet and exercise regimine prior to this Ghandi-esque test of will?

What type of exercise will you be doing?

What eating habits are you going to use to maintain your new found slenderness?

What book/website/infomercial lead you down this path?

I don't agree with this method of weight loss at all. But I have to admit that I'm interested in the outcome as well. If you're willing to keep us posted, Bacon's idea of the training journal is cool.

Are you taking any multivitamin supplements?

My brother was into fasting for a week or two during the summer when we were in middle (me) and high school (him). He had been reading books about detoxing and the body cleansing and shit like that so he gave it a shot and I went along with it.

It's kind of neat. I never kept measurements or weights because I wasn't trying to lose fat, but I don't remember any special change. Just a week of being lazy playing Super Nintendo around the house with my bro. I had the bad habit of picking up shit to eat just because I was bored so cutting out the junk food took a little control but since, I've drank soda maybe 5 times and eaten chips or junk food maybe 10 or less times.

At the time, my class was reading books about "Little Buddha" and some books about characters from India who would go out alone and experiance life and fast for periods of time and meditate and learn to control the deepest hunger and the most basic human feelings and stuff. It was very interesting and I liked feeling the hungry, then controling it down and away to see what those books were talking about.

I wouldn't fast these days though. It might detox the body but I'd rather not give up a week of training in the gym for it. If you try to work, you'll have zero enegy if you do anything physical.

I know that s why I always do the readings at the same time everyday. In the morning

the only experience i have with fasting is with the short time i did the Warrior Diet. to be honest, i kind of like fasting. i feel like im "free" from eating all the time. that was the diets biggest appeal to me, that i wouldnt even have to think about food except for that one time at night. however, i dont really think its that great of a way to reach too many goals, though apparently it is working well for you so more power to you.

There are 2 settings on them. Standard and athletic. The standard is always 5-10 % off. DOn't ask me how but it is. I do mine on both standard and athletic. The calipers is actually the least accurate of all. The water method is best but it cost about $75. It is always best to stick to the same method or the same scale to get consistent results.

First let me say that I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm truly interested.

Are you using a ~$30-$50 scale that you can buy anywhere or is this some fancy high dollar item that you are using to take your BF%? I realize that calibers have a large margin of error but I've known several people who've used the BF scales and they haven't even been in the ball park of being accurate. Granted, they were all cheap scales that could be purchased at any department store.

Also, using some common sense and rational thinking, how does the reading differ between athletic and standard? I mean if it's using these "electronic signals" to calculate fat % just what in the hell would choosing an athletic setting have to do with anything? Again, it sounds like I'm being an ass but I'm only curious.

Also, I apologize for derailing this thread with the scale discussion.

I am using one of the higher end models and I have asked the same question about the standard and athletic settings and have gotten no real answer. Maybe the readings are not right on but I am using them mainly as a guide for I am also using a tape measure and mirror as well. To keep thngs consistent I am using the scale at the same time of the day each time I use it.
