600 Rack Pull Video

Hard to tell it was 5 or 4 plates. Impressive, congrats. So rack pulls help? My problem is getting the bar off the floor.

Rack pulls and reverse band deadlifts work the deadlift lockout. If your problem is the floor or around your shins, you should do platform deadlifts. Stand on a 45lb plate (or try different heights with different plates or plate combinations) and pull like that. It increases the range of motion and will help your starting strength.

lol

My problem is holding onto the bar

Are you using chalk? If not, buy it, and use it when you pull.

If you're already using chalk, do the static hold: set the pins very high, just below lockout, and then lift the bar and hold it for as long as possible. You should be able to use a significant amount more weight with this exercise, compared to when you pull from the floor.

Damn, that was solid. OT question but what sorta weight are you doing on military press, if you do them?

My best military press is 175x1, and a very close failed lift with 180, just short of lockout.

My push press PR is 205x1, and I probably could've done a 2nd rep with it.

I'm currently working on the power jerk, and I will be attempting 215x1 around June, if that goes according to my plan.

My current bodyweight is 165-170.

Thanks, but I think there was a very slight hitch when I did that 600 rack pull. Whatever. It still helps my deadlift. :)

Good job dude.

Im surprised by how close your strict OHP is to your push press. With strict form i can only press around 150, but with a push press i get up to 225. Are you getting enough leg drive? Working the push jerks should help a lot

nice job, what type of gym is that, college gym?

Like I said, the 205 push press was not difficult and I should be able to put up more with the power jerk. We'll see.

Scott: Yeah, it's the CUNY Queens College fitness center, where I go to school.

Hitman: Thanks.

Wow, really nice numbers!

Anyway, I've always been confused about something. Military press is where ya keep your knees locked and give no leg drive, yeah? So what's an overhead press and a push press, exactly? Also - when you say stuff like power cleans or power jerks, what's the difference between a normal clean/jerk?

@_@

Yes, that's correct about the military press.

A push press is a military press, but with leg drive. You dip down and then explode up.

A push/power jerk is basically a cross between a push press and split jerk. You do a double knee bend (dip, jump / lockout bar, dip when you land, and straighten legs), instead of a single knee bend (push press), and your legs don't go into a split, like the split jerk.

When you do the power clean, you don't drop into the full front squat position, like the squat clean.

Is that clear enough?
