The day

You hear all these individuals along with the media boast about how they did this and that to Ali 'Ali went to Hospital, I danced with my wife.' or ' Broke Ali's jaw.'

You lost. He won. Period. Get over it.

He tried his heart out and went out on his shield. Can't question that.

Who are these individuals you're referring to then? And why are you bringing it up in a thread about Henry Cooper? When was Henry boastful? He was known as a humble gent, and there was certainly no bad blood between Cooper and Ali.

And in Cooper's case there's no myth - Ali was revived with smelling salts, and Dundee buying a few extra seconds with some shenanigans with the glove. If Cooper had been boasting that he had Ali out, he'd be telling the truth. But he was never exactly bitter about that at all.

He boasted about it in "facing Ali"

Let's look at the post I quoted again:

Cooper certainly didn't live the rest of his life bitter at Ali and Dundee. He boasted about knocking Ali down and hurting him - which Ali himself admits he did - and Cooper became a bigger name as a result of that fight. Hell, it was part of his public image and aura.

He wasn't arrogant, or bitter. He was proud that he very nearly became the first man to knock out Ali - and probably should have been, if not for Dundee's savvy. Noet wrong with that.

He guys, are smelling salts still used today?

Didn't George Chuvalo say that? doesn't he talk pretty highly of Ali?

He doesn't have to "get over" anything since he handled his losses pretty respectfully

George Chuvalo said the "Muhammad went to the hospital and I went out dancing with my wife" quot. Not sure what it has to do with this thread or why its even that bad

Yeah, exactly. Chuvalo isn't exactly bitter about losing to Ali either.

Cooper certainly never had any problem perpetuating the myth that Ali/Clay's glove was replaced and that he received a substantial amount of time between the rounds to recover.

As is the case with Ali throwing his gold medal into the Ohio river, the actual truth isn't quite as interesting as the myth.

I think he saying how biased the views are in general. It got on my nerves when I read facing Ali, every guy had some excuse or reason that made them lose, it wasn't objective at all, which was to be expected, fighters are competitive. That's not to say that they were sore losers, most of the guys who fought ali did like him a great deal. Some of them, like Bugner, were actually friends with him and I do believe most realize in their hearts that they were "good" and that ali was "great".
