An article of pre-event facts going into UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson tonight in Toronto.

There are a total of 50 facts in the full article, but here are the ones that are best/most interesting, in my opinion of course.

- Alexander Gustafsson can become the first European-born fighter to wear UFC gold since Andrei Arlovski held the heavyweight belt in 2005. Only two European fighters (Arlovski and Bas Rutten) have ever won UFC gold

- Renan Barao can become the first fighter in UFC history to defend an interim championship belt twice. Barao is just one of two fighters in history (Arlovski) to record an interim title defense.

- Costas Philippou vs. Francis Carmont is the first non-title fight in history featuring two fighters who enter the event on a minimum of a five-fight UFC winning streak.

- Pat Healy's 28 completed takedowns under the now-defunct Strikeforce banner were the most in the promotion's existence.

- In the 14 events the UFC has held in Canada, Canadian fighters are 44-35 when facing opponents from other countries. Six of the eight preliminary-card bouts pit a Canadian fighter against a foreign opponent.

"Neither Jones nor Gustafsson has ever been knocked down in 21 combined UFC fights"

Impressive, especially at 205

a lot of those Gus stats are impressive. Really indicates he's the number contender

Carmont vs Phillipou is the first non-title fight with both competitors coming in on 5 or more wins? No fucking way. 5 or more wins in the UFC maybe, but still hard to believe.

It literally says right in the bullet point, "featuring two fighters who enter the event on a minimum of a five-fight UFC winning streak."

I think they mean 5 consecutive UFC wins.

There are two "facts" that are just downright stupid. First, the one about Gus being the first to wear gold since Arvloski and Rutten. By virtue of mathematical logic, if two wore it before him then the word "first" is just downright stupid (go ahead and defend this one with whatever strange logic). Secondly, the Pat Healy factoid about take downs in Strikeforce...amazing stat no doubt but how is that even relevant to UFC stat? That is an MMA stat about a great fighter.
Now relax Andy, not bagging on you for posting those issues from the article, I'm just busting on the article itself. (In before someone gets bent)

*lol* @Meathead and Schaub owning 11 wins together, but only one of the beaten ones is still a UFC HW :D

In simple words:
Gus would be the first since 2005. That means that since 2005 no European has held gold in the UFC. As opposed to "Gustaffson would be the third European to hold gold in the UFC". It's different information.

A fact about Pat Healy is relevant because it provides information about the quality of a fighter on the UFC card.

You're welcome

Sport articles like these are almost always based on factoids and is merely filling to feed the giant thirst for pre-hype-drama before a big fight and gather some additional advertising-clicks...

Jones and Gus are badass. So hard to get emotionally invested.

Picking Jones, but wouldn't mind Gus winning either. I expect a trio of these two + Davis being relevant in the LHW division for a long time coming.
