50/50 positions like against the cage or even guard shouldn’t count towards control time. Only dominate positions like mount, half guard, back control (ground or cage) should count.

Completely agreed, and if you're in the more "offensive" position and doing nothing, it's passively which should count negatively toward the aggression criteria.
