Do almost all of the Dagestani fighters have the same style?

Honestly...there are a lot of good fighters coming out of that region. But I swear they are all interchangable. They have that same Khabib style where they just grind you down. Almost every single one of them I see relies on cardio and relentless pressure to wear down their opponent.

Am I mistaken on this? Is that kind of how they grow/grew up there? Like in some countries BJJ is a focus, or muay thai, boxing, traditional wrestling, etc. In areas like Dagestan they must all grow up wrestling and working that grinding style.

No. Ankalaev and Zabit are strikers. Others like Islam and Khabib are wrestlers.

They come from a sambo background which is focuses on grappling over striking. Yes sambo does have striking but in the scoring systems striking is not weighed as heavily a grappling so you basically need a KO shot to win. You can jab someone 50 times but if they take you down twice the TDs will get that person the win so everyone must be good in grappling just to be competitive and striking is seen as frosting on the cake. Remember sambo comes from judo.

So most of the people from that area don't have the striking skills to beat other strikers but develop great grappling that other parts of the world can't match. A bad grappler in Russia might be a top guy in the UK.

I think all Russians are sambo based and I heard DC on a podcast say something like that even the police force have that kind of grappling wrestling style around the Dagestan area. But I wonder the whole history how their sambo has developed over the years in Dagestan.

I think after putin leveled that whole eastern bloc in whatever Caucasian mountain the kgb targeted he enforced a strict sambo-only lifestyle

Zabit
Ankalaev
Said
Umar
Usman
Tagir

All these pretty much mix it up .. Islam does as well to a higher degree than Khabib.
100%

Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov are both better strikers than Khabib was, but not as strong with grappling. But the Nurmagomedov clan is like the Gracies these days - some have different skills and styles but they all can wrestle very well.

Even Umar and Usman (both nurmagomedov)are strikers
They are mainly grapplers, they just have decent striking, especially compared to other dagestanis. Umar is special imo I think he has a high ceiling. Still mainly a grappler though.

I found out, on Dagestan, between being poor and heavily fighting at a young age, that their sambo was mixed in to apply in the streets so it became a mix with freestyle wrestling, counter wrestling, and throws. It explained how successful their counter wrestling is one of a kind. Also, how heavily they are with plyometrics over weight training due to being poor too.

It sounds like they have a sambo street fight style over many years that crossed the boundaries of being just an organized sport down there for many years. It makes sense, they are poor, tends to be more family than money, and its basically their sport they do religiously like baseball or football for us in the U.S. It appears that way too when they fight, they stand out in their style, like they been doing MMA wrestling for a longer time.

So its a Sambo / Street fight style. I remember Khabib thought the idea of BJJ was a bad idea for being on their backs. He came in at weigh ins with what the photo shows. The training is big part of it too since the amount of energy the expend but they been doing it since their youth and they focus on that endurance type of strength training. Thats one of the other major factors I see among these Dagestan fighters is how well they keep going. Their plyometric training, and what ever else that they have been doing, is noticeable in how well they all seem to keep going.

Zabit had a flashy striking style. But yes there is indeed a very characteristic Dagestani style, with variations of course.

Shit man, you ever been to Oklahoma or Iowa?

Even the scrubby wrestlers would mop the floor with your average wrestler from elsewhere. Even non-wrestlers can wrestle LoL
