of MMA fans not truly knowing what they want.

Here we have a consummate professional and top tier athlete/MMA fighter who doesn’t parade himself for the cameras - who rarely engages in trash talk and even then, they’re really only organic verbal disputes. He neither says ludicrous statements in search for attention, nor hangs himself on an artificial gimmick. He trains, improves and puts on excellent combative performances. It’s really unfortunate his systematic destruction of Nate Diaz will never get the credit it deserves due to a small last moment blip - and if that doesn’t epitomise the current MMA fan, I don’t know what else does.

This dude has always been criticised as being boring. His 8-fight winning streak isn’t worthy of a title shot due to this dull demeanour and personality. These are all criticisms thrown his way from apparent MMA fans. The same fans who’re constantly berating the McGregor ideology of fight promotion; still use it as a fundamental marker on who should deserve a title shot as it’s more logical from a business standpoint - whilst the competitive perspective is completely ignored or isn’t viewed as important.

It’s a sad state of affairs that the fan has now seemingly become the promoter and an apologist for the machine.

Next time you criticise a Leon Edwards, please realise what you’re actually criticising, and by the same token, the things that you’re endorsing.

thank you for attending my Ted talk.

He's a boring point fighting liar.

He knows why he got beat up by Masvidal backstage. It's because he interruped Masvidals interview and told him to shut up.

He's entitled as heck, he really thinks he deserves a TS? Newsflash, he's on a one fight win streak, in which he was almost finished by an unranked former LW. Leon also should have gotten a DQ loss 2 fights ago but was blessed with a NC instead.

All true but what TS said is true. He wins, he has a win streak etc yet the fans who say they want MMA to be more meriocratic are now hating Leon

MMA fans are idiots. We are fans of an embarrassing sport where men insult each other over minuscule things. We pray to the Just Bleed God, we think fighters live rent free in each others heads, and the biggest star in our sports history gets denied a picture from a 3rd tier rapper.

We are a peculiar bunch, who dwell in our mother’s basement, are virgins, and say things online we would never say in person. We are cowards, don’t train or exercise, and ridicule fighters at their lowest moments. We argue for fighters pay while being broke ourselves. To say we are a confused bunch is quite the understatement.

This clown is the epitome of what TS said is wrong with the mma fanbase. Disingenuous at best.

I agree especially at the ending

Hardcore MMA fans argue for other men to make more $$$ when they dont need it yet the MMA fan himself is a Wage Serf and wont argue he deserves more. They hate on UFC and Dana when it is UFC and Dana who are pushing the sport to have less rules, end rampant roiding and be more popular

But to be fair I think Conor instigated the MGK scuffle and likely did DM Megan Fox

The UFC runs their organization like the circus coming to town, not a sport. Merit doesn't ultimately matter that much, this is the current state of affairs.

Leon is one of the best welterweights in the world and is overdue for a title shot. Anyone sensible understands that, the rest is the rest.

Yeah but people who bash Leon (or GSP before for fighting safe) are part of the issue

The fans at large want just bleed, and want fighters who arent as deserving for title shots to be rewarded a title shot if they are popular.

UFC is just acting in response to fan desire by often giving title shots to a more popular (often stupider fighter) but less deserving fighter compared to the quiet guy who is on a longer win streak.

There undoubtedly a divide among fans, including users of this forum. Many prioritize skill and merit, many others find interesting personalities and drama more appealing. In general the same person won't be in both camps.

Cant really change people mind set when it comes to sports, Fans use sports/mna get away from their everyday life, but they see someone like Leon (normal personality) his not really the star they project themselves to be. Fighters like Nick diaz or Conor for example, they seem to be characters of a movie and I think that's why people follow them more so then guys like Leon.

Fighters like Leon just need to keep on winning, only way to get some sort of steam would be upsetting the fans all the time till they admit his a good fighter. Some fighters have the fast lane and some do not, that's why I think its a mistake for Leon to wait on the sideline and should fight Masdival as soon as possible. He need to build his name off fighters like Masdival and keep asking for a title match.

Clown shoes all around. Anyone who doesnt think Edwards hasnt fought enough and earned his TS, when Masvidal and Colby just linger around like turds, is part of the problem. And probably an idiot.

MMA is infested with Twatter and TitKok fans...

Shit sounds like water cooler gossip half the time round these parts.

Prolly only 10-20% a this site is worth a glance...

The UFC will book based on short term money most of the time, with spite and holding down fighter negotiations tertiary.

Edwards for his part had the misfortune of fighting a bunch of guys who are notoriously hard to put away:

- Luque has been stopped ZERO times in 17 UFC fights
- Barberena stopped 2 times in 12 UFC fights
- RDA stopped 3 times in 30 UFC fights
- Nate Diaz stopped 2 times in 26 UFC fights (one via cut!)

These are guys who are wildly, wildly hard to put away and they've fought world class opponents. Luque only has two UFC losses in total and he's clearly one of the best welterweights in the world.

He probably should have TKO'd Cerrone and stepped on the gas, fair enough. The rest, none of his peers are stopping these guys either.

A good chunk of MMA fans don’t give a shit about whether a fighter is entertaining in the cage as long as they entertain on Twitter.

Look back on Leon's last 5 fights and point to the most memorable moments. I really only recall him almost getting finished against Diaz.

I don't care much for Conor's antics outside the cage but every single one of his fights has been exciting.

Also while Leon is on a streak, he doesn't have that signature win that would scream title shot. If he hadnt ducked Wonderboy he would have one.

sadly its worse than what threadstarter thinks. its more a global change of ideology on whats important and whats not, mostly due to the social media, tik tok generation that is taking over. Its everywhere.
in boxing, jake and logan paul are the best paid and most lucrative. Hell, in politics, trump won (not debating if he was good or not) mostly on his social media and tv fame..and this being the most important job in america.
in todays world, fame and clout rule above all else

He should just rematch Belal while waiting for the title picture to clear up
