There are plenty of others UFC would not want as Champs such as Palhares, Smothers brothers Fitch n Volkman plus somewhat cringe, always injured or only fight once a year or so, etc… but Strickland probably not high on favored list, but so it goes for many.

He will never be a serious contender IMO but he is a great fun fighter who loves to just bang. Ya gotta love someone like that. He doesn't need to be champ to be a nice PPV main card fighter as he is easy to plug in against a striker to get a great fan friendly fight.
