If Jones never fights again, is this the most underwhelming retirement of all time?

Every month that passes it becomes more and more likely Jones will never fight again. Im thinking of Anderson's last fight in the UFC and how that whole event was basically a send off ceremony for him. How GSP's retirement was big in terms of people (media, fans, sherdoggers) just constantly bringing him up.

Jones just went away via Twitter and that's it. Pretty underwhelming for such a dominant champion.

Is it naive of me that I genuinely believe he’s taking this transition to HW seriously and is just allowing his body to acclimatise to the new weight etc.

Whenever new footage appears of him (which is mainly of him performing in the gym) he’s looking bigger and more appropriate for heavyweight. Playing devils advocate, perhaps we are just not being patient enough?

Absolutely..

He won a few fights in his last stretch that were absolutely controversial. Should have been DQd against Smith.

And then he ran from Jan after publicly accepting the challenge.

Fuck him, and his fans..

He would be slower at HW and he doesnt have KO power so i dont know how it would go for him over there, he would have to take francis down otherwise he would probably get knocked out.

On a more real note

Wouldn't blame the guy if he wanted to retire. His last few fights were lackluster as well as no more PEDs looks like he missed a step

You know Izzy would call his ass out on it. Adesayna would say he out of his comfort and jumped weight classes to fight. Jones isn't going to KO Francis Ngannou, lol. We know that for sure. Most likely cage hump him or take him down and GnP him until the ref stops the fight.

You’ve stated two things there that are just opinion and haven’t been categorically proven as of yet. ‘Slower’ could be all relative - he may look faster compared to his contemporaries at HW. Also, we have no idea that he wouldn’t have KO power with the added mass, it’s a possibility since the technique has always been there.

I have watched MMA for about 25 years. I have never seen a fighter with below average KO power go up a division and all of a sudden have decent KO power in a higher weight class. I find that scenario extremely unlikely.

Yup..

But that would be kind of jonesesque tbh..

Why the hell should he have been DQd? Smith wanted to continue. They did. End of story.

Yeah, it doesn't work that way. The fighter may add mass, but everyone he is fighting has that mass, too.

Adding 10-15 lbs of mass to your entire body doesn't magically equate to a huge % increase of KO power. Speed, timing and technique have way more to do with that.

Jones has never knocked people out with his fists. He did however render the HW champion unconscious with his foot.

Many HW's only have one tool because they are so relatively unskilled, thats their fists.
Jones has demonstrated an arsenal of tools to win fights

Jones has looked mediocre since the Gus 2 debacle when the show had to be moved to LA a few days before the event. He was clearly unable to pass tests, so presumably has been competing clean since then. His performances in the past three fights were crap.

It's underwhelming only if you don't understand what's happening. Jones cannot compete at a high level natty. LHW is a joke and he barely managed to eek out split decisions against a one-legged MW washout and a technology support specialist. His striking looked like dogshit. His wrestling looked like dogshit. All he could was engage in pointfighting pitter-patter and pray the corrupt judges will award him the """win""". That's what Jones has always been: a can who is nothing without roids.

His performances are going to get worse and worse, I wouldn't be surprised if he never takes another fight again.

"It's underwhelming only if you don't understand what's happening"
LOL!
proceeds to expound that he doesn't know "what's happening" or "what's happened"

Bones is muh fav fighter (teetering to Usman) but he isn't fighting. If he never fights again it will be a disappointment but not a huge deal. MMA game is fickle and I'm here for the fights over the fighters. I have favs but don't really mind win or lose as long as the scrap is good.

Basically...

Not really a retirement just a permanent ban from the sport for being the biggest cheat and the icing on the cake is the fact that he ducked Francis/priced himself out. Facts are facts.

also the fact that he's moving up to HW because the faster LHW were piecing him up so he had to run to HW supposedly.
