It was (rightfully) pointed out that at 38 Stipe wasn't quite the same against Ngannou as compared to his past years...and that a rematch unfortunately doesn't look likely to go Stipe's way because he isn't getting any younger.

Doesn't this show how great DC is, given that he's 3-4 years older than Stipe...

Imagine adding 3 years to Stipe or subtracting 3 years from DC....age for age they wouldn't still be 2-1 Stipe in their 3 fights.

Some people lose perspective of this when they wrongly suggest that Stipe is higher on the GOAT scale than DC.

Dc was an absolute beast. I think if he stayed at hw his whole career he would be talked about as one of the goats. His strikeforce run at hw was unbelievable at a time when strikeforce had a better hw division.

Considering his age and reach disadvantages, combined with the fact that he's a two division drug-free champ with defenses in both divisions...it's hard to argue that he is not the GOAT...or perhaps 2nd only to Khabib (since Khabib was never even dropped or cut in any of his fights)

I think he is definitely up there as one of the goats but his losses to Jones keep the general public from agreeing. I think at hw he wouldve beat Jones. Not so sure about that currently though.

Jones even said himself that he wouldn't fight DC at HW only at LHW (about a year before DC retired).

The fact that DC forced (metaphorically) JJ to overdose on PEDs combined with JJ "coincidentally" moving to HW as soon as DC retired proves his goatness even further.

Age is a mother fucker, but everyone ages differently and peaks at different times. Strikers tend to peak a bit earlier and grapplers a bit later.

There is also fighting age and physical age. Someone that started getting into full on wars and getting KO'd at 18 will peak much earlier than a fighter that started training MMA later in their career like DC

Starting MMA later is one's career is generally a disadvantage. If this weren't true Abdulmanap would have waited until Khabib was older before starting to train him.

DC had his first mma fight in 2009, Stipe had his first in 2010. DC had 22 fights before his first fight with Stipe, Stipe had 20 fights. They are only three and a 1/2 years apart, which in upper thirties is not a huge drop off in physical decline and fighter experience. Sorry, but Stipe>DC. We have seen it twice already, and they were both at similar points in their career. Plus Stipe was coming off of a five round fight against the hardest hitter when he lost to DC the first time. Unblinded Stipe is the better fighter, and he doesn’t even train full time. Deal with it Sherdog.

he was a default champion as as he won a title when the guy who held it for a decade was suspended.

he never beat the guy. He did lose to him twice. And that’s not a knock on dc. It’s a testament of how great jones is and dc wouldn’t have won a title with jones in the picture.

DC??? Lol he’s never been the best at anything!

not the best hw in his own camp
Not the best LHW thanks to Jones
Not the best hw thanks to Stipe
No gold at the Olympics
Not even the best company man, commentator and shill thanks to Joe Rogan being better.

for a guy who was never the best and only had a mere 20 or so wins in his entire career some sherbros really hype up DC

dv could have won the third fight. It was close and that’s not anywhere near a prime dc. He can’t even wrestle for more than a minute or two a fight. He had to fight like a boxer. And an eye poke greatly impacted the third fight.

the dc that fought say Barnett. Is way above the versions that fought stipe. As ya know. He was healthy enough and didn’t have back issues he could use his main weapon an entire fight.

dc turned into a boxer. A not very good one and won the hw title.

You can't compare Miocic's fight against much younger Ngannou in his prime and Cormier's fight with old Miocic.

He's saying in terms of damage and mileage. The earlier you start, the sooner the damage and mileage accumulates. DC started later so he was able to fight at a later age because he had less damage and mileage. Yes you can argue physical decline but everyone is different and DC was still fighting at the top level at an age where fighters would already be retried at. That's due in part with his late start not accumulating damage early so he was able to extend his fighting career later than fighters that started earlier than he did.

If the advantage of starting late to have less accumulated damage outweighed physical decline then everyone would be delaying their MMA training later in life.

You're ignoring that the guy was suspended because he was forced to take PEDs just in order to compete against short fat DC!

Then this same guy ducked DC at heavyweight but supposedly decided to move up as soon as DC retired lol
