I don't like to shit talk fighters and I say this with the upmost respect for the man. I just want to spur a conversation on this topic that is seldom discussed when analyzing Conor.

He has a very difficult time overcoming adversity and I don't recall him overcoming it in a single fight since his debut in the UFC.

Maybe you could argue Mendes because he got taken down? But even then he was beating Mendes up as soon as the fight was standing.

He almost seems to lose his fire immediately after losing one round or big exchange. Diaz 1, Khabib, and Poirier are all proof of this. It's like he loses belief in himself as soon as he gets hurt, he isn't the type to dig deep to survive.

People bring up his cardio issues but its more than just that, he loses belief in himself as soon as he isn't in control.

overcame mendez adversity, won a round against khabib and overcame adversity, lost 2 rounds agaisnt nate and came back to win the 5th
Won a rd against Khabib and overcame adversity? He was already winning rds against Nate in the rematch. Knocked him down 3 times before losing a rd if I remember correctly. Hardly lost any big moments in that fight

He beat Mendes in the 2nd, he only won a round against Khabib because Khabib took the round off, he beat Nate, but he still had that dip after the first round, Nate just isn't a finisher, and allowed Conor to box, so Conor recovered

Didn't he win the fourth round but lost the 5th?

Also he didn't overcome adversity by fighting back like a warrior, he overcame adversity by going into survival mode and winning on points because he was so far ahead on the scorecards after the early knockdowns

He did pretty well in the 4th round, and he only got 10-9s so he wasn't that far ahead

But yeah he clearly lost the 5th

Overcame Adversity against Diaz, came back to win the 4th and a extremely competitive 5th after it looked like he was completely gassed and done. Also got completely mauled by Khabib in the 2nd round and came back to win the 3rd. Don't think it's really fair to say this

It's just business, Conman is an entertainer and businessman. He'd rather lose than get CTE

Conor's teep kick was nice that fight. Wish he used it more.
That's another problem with Conor

His stupid obsession with Boxing, what a big mistake, wasted all these years in his prime with the idea he would go back and forth from MMA to Boxing, until he lost to Poirer and realized how dumb and arrogant that was. Now he probably will never be able to get back to where he was when he fought Alvarez, before the Mayweather fight.

Mendes overcame the adversity for him by gassing horribly
He gassed because he had no camp and cut a heap of weight on short notice
Nah, you’re definitely selling Conor’s body work short in this fight. He was doing a TON of work to Chad’s body and chad was visibly not handling it well

sure the short camp didn’t help but by the same token, conor was prepared for aldo and instead spent time underneath chad mendes eating heavy ground and pound. Kinda balances out

Him going back to his boxing coach, Phil Sutcliffe was not smart move. Especially since the dude doesn't seem to respect MMA as whole sport. Yes his hands looked fast as hell January, but he was very basic and predictable with his combos.

Conor needs to let a proper coach take over his camp. Honestly think Poirier could finish him sooner since it's only been 6 months and his chin probably hasn't recovered.
