Just looking at Usman’s record it’s already really impressive. His win over Colby is imo tied with GSP’s win over BJ (if not better). Knocked out Burns who is one of the most dangerous BJJ practitioners at WW. The win over Masvidal is comparable to GSPs win over Condit as both opponents are the best strikers in the division.

Assuming he beats Masvidal and then defends against Leon or Colby, would he already be tied?

Beating is colby is... as good as beating your meat.. not a whole bj!

BJ destoryed matt hughes twice!! And he’s a weight class bellow! The fuck has colby ever done other than decision senior citizens?!

Going to be very difficult for him because he doesn’t have the marketability or the popularity of GSP. He’s a great fighter no doubt. He’s he’s not really a star.

If he finishes Masvidal, defeats Colby in a dominating fashion and beats Wonderboy, someone who brings a complete different set of weapons that Usman hasn’t faced before. That would make him the WW goat IMO, despite not defending as many times as George. You have to consider GSP’s losses as well in contrast to Usman who is/would be undefeated in the UFC.

GSP has 4 wins by finish in welterweight title fights if you count the corner stoppage of Penn between rounds. Usman has 2 such wins, so he just needs 2 more to tie GSP there.

Never losing the belt would really help the argument for Usman. Serra beat GSP so bad that he tapped to strikes. GSP won the rematch to even the score at 1:1. The judges gave GSP a split decision against Hendricks, but all 16 media members scored the fight for Hendricks, none scored it for GSP. Then GSP vacated the title instead of rematching Hendricks.

It's just a quantity game in terms of top wins and title defenses.

Given the landscape in modern WW vs the time of GSP and certainly the time of Hughes, for me if he simply matched those totals GSP put up I'd given him the nod.

To beat Hughes on a historical front, he might not need as many top wins and title defenses as Hughes, considering the quality of competition is certainly higher now than in Hughes's day, and Usman would almost certainly beat him H2H peak-to-peak.

GSP has landed the most take downs in ufc history p4p. 90 takedowns, Usman with all those fight minutes and decision wins hasn’t even reached half that, and he has an actual big wrestling background.

Usman has 13 ufc wins, GSP has 20 ufc wins.
Gsp has 13 title wins! Lol

GSP has the record for most knockdowns in title bouts in ww history. P4p he’s tied with cain and conor at 3rd.

All these 3 points together make it really hard for me to think Usman can ever surpass gsp in anything since he said he might retire after 2 more fights... Hope we at least get to see the kahmzat match.. only exciting NEW thing left in this division.

He needs to at the very least be close in title defenses. GSP has, what, 9 or 10?

If Usman gets to 7-8 against too talent without losing in between, he has a case.
