Vettori fought intelligently today by repeatedly taking down a heavy handed opponent.

But in doing so he ensured Adesanya, as long as he is champion, never agrees to a title fight with him.

There are many fighters who possess the ability to take there opponent down every round, and ground and pound them, but not many that ultimately end up receiving title shots do so.

Marvin is going to probably go up a spot to #5, but there is absolutely no chance Adesanya willingly ever fights an opponent like him who has shown a propsenity for that style of fighting. For reasons the Polish Powerhouse exposed.

Maybe he fights Jared Cannonier in 6 month on the main card of Adesanyas title defense, but he definitely will not be the one challenging.... ever

If Marvin wants to go to a division where this style of fighting is more accepted by the champ, perhaps he could move down to WW.

The Italian Dream is over

When Cormier asked if he thought this win warranted a title shot I was hoping he’d say no. Maybe call out a higher ranked guy to cement his shot but of course he said yes.

If he keeps winning it’ll happen anyway. He looked strong tonight, Izzy might be in trouble.
Contenders inevitably fall by the wayside. If Vettori gets 1-2 more good wins he will be the last man standing and get his shot at Izzy, provided he wins his next 1-2 before Vettori.

Izzy will tear his legs to pieces with the new and improved low calf kick. Tko 2nd round

Lol, Jan is a bigger and better version of Vettori and couldn't get Israel down against the fence, but only in a few instances where he set up his takedowns with strikes and/or timed them perfectly.

Jan Blachowicz also has far better striking defense than Vettori.

Vetorri will get destroyed by anyone in top 5 , and guy like Kelvin would be nightmare for him . He can only beat guys with terrible takedown and ground game like Holland and guys like Hermanson who are big plodding grapplers

When Vettori arguably beat him, he decided they'd never fight. I doubt tonight has any effect

People seem to think Vettori is as large, strong, and skilled as Jan. He's not..... Israel will deal with him much easier this time now that he knows what his gameplan will be.

Go and check their stats before posting ; Vettori 66% striking defense Blachowicz 53% .

  1. Those are career stats and Blachowicz has improved a ton from where he was at, skill-wise
  2. Blachowicz has fought better opponents thus far/more good opponents
  3. This single stat doesn't necessarily tell too much; Ryan Bader, John Makdessi and Jon Madsen all have a (way) higher striking defense percentage than a prime Anderson Silva and Dominick Cruz.

The first fight was razor thin.

I think Izzy is scared shit less of being wrestle effed again.

Damn shame because Vettori deserves it.
Deserves it. Absolutely not. Who he beat? Hermanson?

maybe if he can beat Brunson and another top 5er. I doubt he makes it to the title anyways against the dudes ranked ahead of him.
