Almost Every single fight of Randy Coutures career in the UFC was a title shot or a title fight, aside from his fight with Van Arsdale.

The early ones were tournaments, but every time he fought after that he was fighting for a title, not a contender.

He came off two losses at Heavyweight to Fight Chuck Liddell for the title.

Then he came off two losses to Chuck Liddell to fight Tim Sylvia for the title!!

BJ Penn is just as bad. He earned his first two title shots but didn’t deserve his shot at Hughes.

He didn’t deserve his first fight with GSP, which he lost.

And then he got a second shot at Hughes! And lost again!

And then he got another shot at lightweight after a win over Pulver who wasn’t even relevant at the time.

Conor’s only undeserved fight was against Alvarez, but he was at least FW champ so you can definitely make an argument that he deserved it based on that.

Brock beat Heath Herring who was a top heavyweight at the time.

And TFerg couldn't get one legitimate title shot. UFC kinda picks guys they want to run the show.

I agree with everything you said except for Heath Herring being a top HW, he was a seasoned veteran of MMA, had a ton of fights but was never a top guy, contrary to Rogan's commentary when he fought Lesnar and he was talking like Herring was this world beater of an athlete.

Which doesn't really matter because Couture and Penn definitely did get good treatment. Unpopular opinion that Couture was a paper champion at HW but a legend at LHW.

BJ penn had just lynched the number 1 Lightweight in the world prior to the Hughes fight. He earned his shot at hughes like every other double champ had before.

I would say, if you are a star who fights much more frequently, you're more likely to get opportunities.

Yes I think he hovered at about #10 at his peak.

I don't even consider this undeserved. He was coming off beating Diaz, who at the time was #4 at LW. Conor actually had the highest ranked win over a contender of anybody in the division other than Eddie's own run. People say he leapfrogged guys like Khabib and Tony, but they were coming off wins over the unranked Horchers and Landos of the division. He actually legit was the only one who'd beaten a contender lol.

Had he fought RDA as he was originally supposed to it would've been far more undeserved. Instead he actually reasonably earned it by beating #4 Diaz.

I have always said that about Randy, teachers pet. Great fighter for his era, but he was gifted so many title shots.

Herring was unranked at the time, but that was only because Sherdog's rankings were horribly biased, especially towards Pride's former top fighters at the time. Which makes it even more surprising Herring wasn't getting ranked.

I mean, Herring was somehow unranked despite coming off a win over Kongo, who was coming off a win over Mirko. Neither Herring nor Kongo were ranked, but Mirko was somehow #9 lol. And no, it's not like he'd gone on a run or anything, he literally only had 1 win over a Japanese can Mizuno back in Japan, and somehow got to be ranked over Kongo and Herring. It made absolutely no sense beyond nostalgic favourtism towards Mirko.

Herring also had a very reasonable claim to being ranked even beyond that as the fight before Kongo he head kick KO'd Nog, who was #2. Yes, Nog came back and won the decision, but we all saw he was KO'd in the 1st and the fight would've been stopped if he was anybody other than Nog and given a chance he shouldn't have. Nog was out and lost, but regardless Herring showed he should've been ranked for that.

He was indeed being overrated to support Brock's win over him, it's not like he was top 5 or anything. But he was also being underrated for absolutely no reason even before the fight and probably could've been top 10.

Thing is, in all historical periods UFC never gave a fuck and did what they thought would have gave them money
The word "deserve" for them have a different meaning, they never considered MMA a sport
