Man Benavidez used to be super quick, now watching him move is like watching Black Beast, dude seems to have just lost all his explosiveness and fluidity.

Lol, there are exceptions but it's like that with most people.

Haha on the tale of the tape my wife was saying these guys looked old.

Hes 36 at the fastest paced weight.

Juxtapose this with the Pride cultists blaming age and wear & tear for CC, Nog's, and Fedor's pist-Pride failures as 31-33 year old HWs

Sure, but it seems you can stretch your abilities right into your 40's in the grown ups weight classes (Romero, Couture, DC, Hendo, etc...).

But once these little guys get over a certain age they just fall off a cliff it seems.

Joe B has a very large head for his size. That weight is better spent in muscles or limbs. No surprise the normal-proportioned males are dominating the division like Askarov, Moreno, and Deveidson.

It's not only about age, it's about wear and tear. Take one of your examples in Cro Cop, the guy had like 60 pro fights in boxing and K-1 before he even started MMA. Compare him to someone like Randy Couture who really just started getting hit in his mid 30's. Who gives a shit if Randy is now 44 and Mirko only 33, when you consider all the wear and tear they're pretty close in fight age.

He lost his Tyson spirit animal

lighter classes have always seemed that way. They rely so heavily on speed that once they lose any edge its a precipitous fall.

60 fights isnt that many.

Izzy has like 100

He fought for like 11 years after Pride

Benavidez has been around forever, I'd say he aged well. It's surprising how long it took for his sloppy style to catch up to him. Just shows how shallow (or rather top heavy) the FLW division has been, if you needed another reminder.

Joe B was so fast and powerful in his prime. People were afraid of his striking, not the other way around.

Father Time is undefeated.

It sucks to see quality guys like Joe B on the decline. He was elite in 2 weight classes for a long time.
