Does anyone miss the good old days when ufc

No, my minimum dose of MMA is 1 event per week. You can watch one event per month if you are so against it.

I watch like 3 per week . LFA Bellator and a couple others only easy now because our city is still on lockdown

I suggest 99% of sherdoggers who 'miss the good ol days' didn't actually watch UFC during the good l days.

Mock TUF all you want, but admit it; you'd barely heard of 'cage fighting' before Leben drunkenly spritzed on a pillow.

Yes, events seemed more special then, but that’s part of the growth of the sport. There are football and baseball games on more often than just once a week during their season. MMA has grown a lot to be able to do that, and generally bags a good thing. What should change is their PPV model.

Yeah totally dude man, having one event a week is such a head fuck and difficult to keep up with

Had like 1 event per month and it was so easy to keep up with the organization as well as the fighters .
Back when Ariel Helwani use to interview fighters backstage
Things always seem better in "the good old" days.

Pretty sure if you were asked if you wanted fights every week you would have said fuck yes.

the machine needs to keep going, weekly is nice, but not as invested. they only have some many draws and they will keep on cycling the machine to spew out others that can attract fans.

If I'm being honest, I freaking love MMA these days and how much it's spoiling me. I get a lot of the complaints that are happening and I get where you're coming from TS, but as someone that follows the sport religiously and has for years, I'm totally down with high level MMA every week. Each card is for sure de-valued compared to the cards that would happen monthly with much more anticipation and build up, but I've never much cared about the marketing. With that said, I have had to stop listening to MMA radio shows and whatnot; they'd just start to all sound the same and get me too anxious for some weird reason. I feel very connected with MMA news just by being on the forum and watching MMA regularly as well as training. I do miss the personalities that I used to listen to though -- Jeff Sherwood, TJ Desantis, Jordan Breen, Josh Gross, Greg Savage, Anthony Walker, etc...

It's a mixed bag. On the one hand, I certainly don't sit down and watch every event from start to end like I used to. On the other, there's always MMA to scratch that itch if I've got it, and the PPVs are usually still worth inviting over people to watch together.

I guess that's how you know it's a mainstream sport now. You can turn on the TV and usually catch some fights, but the big events are still the big events, and the big personalities are still the big personalities.

No, I actually like watching MMA.

This notion that cards are less stacked now than they were in the past is absurd. 15 years ago, people were complaining that the UFC was filling up PPVs with guys from TUF. And they weren't wrong.

You have to be delusional if you think the average PPV today is worse than these cards.

Nope. I enjoy mma cards every week. It gives me a sat night every week that is known as "my time" in my household.

One a month would be shit.

For the moronic Sherdoggers who prefer "the good old days": Back in the good old days, you couldn't even watch prelims live. The only fights you could watch live were on the main card, and if you were lucky, they replayed some of the prelims during the broadcast.

Televised prelims started with UFC 108 in 2010. And we still couldn't even watch the full prelims. Only a couple.

It wasn't until UFC 129 in 2011 that it was actually possible to even watch all prelims live.

Five live fights once a month? Hard pass.

ITT: Fans who started following in the Conor era (and after) telling us how the good old days sucked

I agree, but maybe not as far as 1 event a month. I think the UFC grew too fast in trying to put on cards once a week. Two events a month, with the occasional variance (a couple months with 1 card, a couple with 3 cards, etc.) would be ideal. That way they can have more regular events than they used to, but are able to put more time promoting quality fighters.

The number of events right now really oversaturates the UFC brand, especially in the covid era. Even before the covid era though, prelims would essentially be who was on the regional promotions in the city they were holding the event at. That's the UFC playing both major and minor league. Reduce the UFC cards and put on only quality cards with quality fighters. And let us hardcore fans watch the actual regional circuits (via UFC fight pass) if we need more than 2 cards a month. This could give fighters more time to develop outside of the UFC, and help give them more buzz before coming in. Much better than having random people fill time slots on shitty cards.

It seemed like you used to be able to rattle off every name. Some of them never even got a title shot like Alan Belcher but everyone felt more unique vs now where half the roster feels like bland run of the mill fighters. And I don't mean they had whacky personalities or talked mad shit all the time, but it was easier to distinguish between everyone.

Not one damn bit. Sure it was EASIER to follow the sport, but so what? This never been about easy. Diehard mma fans from 20 yrs ago know what it was like back then. Now it is better, way the fuck better.
Wanting less mma is fucking dumb.
