I did google it, nothing conclusive. Seems like it could potentially go very badly and wind up getting you sick or doing harm to your body. I'm not an expert yet though I need at least 5 more minutes on Google

you need to try it, you will feel amazing

bay area soudns like a warm place so the coldest setting on your shower probably isn't cold enough so you could try a lesser version of it but otherwise just a 3 minute cold shower will make you feel great
 
ice baths are very common in high competition sports world. they help with any swelling and aches that build up from hard training. also helps muscle growth and recovery.
I'm familiar with ice baths in the locker room but I guess I just felt those are more controlled and scientific but probably not
