This thread is dedicated to making to case for a Welterweight Masters Division.

We’ve got several big named fighters in the WW division who keep talking about coming back and would mix nicely with some of the fading WW and LW fighters as well.

There is not one bad matchup in this entire lineup of Welterweight Fighters.

Fighters at Welterweight:

Robbie Lawler

Matt Brown

Nick Diaz

Nate Diaz

Dan Hardy

Carlos Condit

Demian Maia

Diego Sanchez

Tim Means

EDIT:
Donald Cerrone

Fighters at Lightweight that could move up:

Clay Guida

Jim Miller

Francisco Trinaldo

Book it Dana

We dont need to designate a special division to see old guys fight old guys. UFC matchmakers can just book old guys vs old guys or old guys could come out and say they will only accept fights against old guys

I wouldn’t quite put Nate in his category just yet. Maia is also still a top 10 fighter at this point.

Contender Series: The Comeback
Lawler vs Diaz II
Cerrone vs Sanchez (already booked)
Condit vs Means
Hardy vs Brown

Yes I completely forgot about Cerrone!

Why not have them fight young lions? The young guys can learn from it and the older guys can prove they are still UFC worthy

The question is, in that scenario, what happens with the over-the-hill competitor who goes on a tear? Does a long win streak earn him a title shot?

Older retired fighters have talked about this before with a modified ruleset similar to Tennis with the legends tour. Personally I think it is a great idea but only for retired fighters with different rules (some of the ones which were brought up when I first heard about it were shorter rounds, no elbows)

Watching past prime fighters is not entertaining

Current rules are already MMA light. We don't need geriatric fights with a
even more neutered ruleset.

He isn’t coming back. Nick Diaz supposedly is.

If you say so. I periodically hear buzz about each of them coming back (more often about GSP) but haven't seen anything concrete.
