Someone pointed out rounds give strikers an advantage because you get stood up at the end of every round. But why not just start each round in the same position as the how the previous round ended? That does seem more fair and realistic. What would be the consequence?

Not giving rounds gives an overwhelming advantage to the one who has better top control on the ground. Mma would lose half of its fans because of that “gay ground shit”.

Good question. Especially when a previous round ends with a tight submission attempt and the fighter is literally saved by the bell (RIP Screech).

Exactly, that’s not even an uncommon occurrence.

Only if they change the rules regarding ground strikes particularly kicks and elbow angle.

ok but why not go even further, lets say if one was knocked down and saved by the bell they should knock this guy down at the beginning of the next round, i mean thats just fair...

You gotta think your questions through m8. If fights are going to start from the same position they left off then rounds would be asinine.

If advantages need to be considered why have rounds at all? Why not just let fights play out how Vale Tudo was intended and let them go without time limit until someone gets knocked out or forfeits?

You guys are overthinking something so simple.

A ten minute first round would be ideal or two 10 min rounds. And judge the fight as a whole not round by round.

Shooting a TD at “ten seconds out” is happening every damn fight now

I feel like this change would actually discourage that behavior. Fighters do this now to score points when they perhaps have no desire to be on the ground and/or they’re not confident the takedown will succeed. If they have to begin next round in the same position, it seems like it would discourage them unless they really want to work from the ground and are confident they can get the takedown.

Makes no sense under Unified MMA rules, because each round is scored in isolation. So having a guy carrying an advantage from the previous round wouldn't really align with the scoring system.

If we were scoring under Pride rules, where the entire fight was taken into consideration, then this would make more sense, but it still poses the problem of potentially making bouts less exciting. Not only because people prefer striking, but also because it takes a lot of the incentive away for the fighter with the dominant ground position to work for a finish, because they know they'll just carry that position to the next round anyway, so there's no sense of urgency.

How do you properly score each round if one fighter gets to start with an advantage?
the guy controlling the fight at the end of the round automatically gets points and controls the start of next round. Ultimate Position Control wins the fight. Clay Guida would be P4P GOAT
