The UFC is overhyping Burns to lowball the likes of Masvidal and other elite WWs

Has Burns done enough to deserve to a title shot?

It's no secret that the WW title picture has been taking time to move ahead, due to plenty of negotiations by the elites in the division. Usman VS Masvidal simply isn't being inked.

Colby has also made some noise about his pay. Nate Diaz has been holding out for big pay fights for a while now. If you consider Conor a WW fighter, then well- he's absolutely not fighting unless he's guaranteed 7 digits.

So, here enters a guy in Burns who seemingly doesn't care about the money, and only wants to get to the top of the mountain.

And that may be a good thing, but do you guys remember when you had to beat multiple top contenders to be a top contender?

Burns did great against Woodley - good, congratulations.

But this is the same Woodley who got utterly dominated by Usman. If Woodley fought closely with the champ, and Burns beat him... I understand the need for excitement.

I don't get why the UFC, especially DC, was trying to get fans excited over the thought of Burns fighting for the title. There are a lot more proven guys in the division at this point. The other commentators pointed it out too, but DC kept pushing Burns towards title talks. It seemed scripted.

Burns has 2 top10 wins... he just got KOd by Dan Hooker less than 2 years ago. This isn't some unstoppable force of nature. Let him gather up some more top 5 wins and then we can say for sure that Gilbert Burns deserves a title shot, right?

That's my opinion. The UFC was just pushing him to the top as negotiating leverage- to lowball the likes of Usman and Masvidal and all.

This is a known tactic used by the UFC. Remember when they sent Khabib a contract for a title shot just to leverage it against McGregor and Alvarez? Khabib's dad admitted that The Eagle got played by the UFC to reduce the price tag of those fighters.

Burns is serving that same purpose right now imo.

Getting to the top of the mountain is the chance at better pay for those guys like Burns, others like Nate, Masvidal hasnt won much but seem to have developed a fair following so only want "money" fights, Masvidal could get Usman, but he isnt interested, cause the UFC wont pay him, its not like the UFC is pushing Burns on us, he just beat the former champion for 5 rounds, if the others dont want the fight....

Masvidal is being given a title shot on a golden plate, but he wants to go back to the left overs of an already defeated Nate Diaz. LOL

Colby was finished. Woodley was dominated twice in a row. Edwards can't leave his country. Ponzinibio is MIA. The only hot fighter at 170 is Burns.

Usman vs Burns makes sense. Unless, McGregor wants to fight a real 170 fighter. LOL

For the record, Masvidal has stated that he has not been offered a contract agreement for the Usman fight, because Usman hasn't been able to agree to a price with the UFC to take this fight... and this is why Masvidal is content to move forward.

He may not be the next in line but if the other top 5 WWs wanna play games and stall... sure he can get a title shot, I mean with what he's accomplished since moving up to 170, why not?

KO Maia and a 50 - 45 Woodley is a lot nicer than some of the others fighters resumes ahead of him

Plus Dana can use a title shot for Burns to try and reduce the asking price that Ali and Usman have atm and possibly hit a home run if Burns can take the title, then they (UFC & ESPN) have an arguably more marketable fighter they can get behind

Good points,

but... the fact is that Ali and Usman are not even agreeing to a fight with Masvidal - Mas, who's one of the hottest fighters in the UFC. That fight in Nate was huge.

If the duo are not even agreeing to a certain price to fight one of the top guys in MMA right now, do you think they will agree for less to fight some relatively unknown guy?

He earned it TS. The only reason we wanted jorge to fight is because he's hype, cool and a good match up for usman. His wins didn't earn him the shot. Had he beaten any elite fighter and not nate at 244, he would deserve it. Instead of taking the opportunity, he wants easy money in nate. Also colby lost. Leon is stuck in the UK... So the only option is burns. Besides Masvidal doesn't have the same quality wins. Burns knocked out maia and shouted "porra" afterwards. Can you say the same about jorge? Fine colby beat maia but did he go on and destroy woodley in the same year and scream "porra!" afterwards? No. So burns is the guy. Afterwards, leon should be given a nice match-up and WHEN he wins he's next. Simple. Jorge had a chance and turned it down.

It's his own training partner also managed by Ali,negotiations for that fight shouldn't be difficult.

Overhyping Burns..?

Masvidal in his last 3 fights has beaten.. Till, Askren, Diaz.

Burns has beaten Nelson, Maia, Woodley..

You could easily argue that Burns has the better streak..?
Are you serious?

Masvidal smashed Till, who was coming off a title shot.

Masvidal smashed Askren, who was undefeated and just beat former champ Robbie Lawler

Masvidal smashed Nate, who just split fights with Conor McGregor and beat Pettis

Great point. I mean Dana is going to play his hand and can push them into a corner. If they continue to stall towards the end of 2020 then eventually Dana will strip Usman and have him and Ali out of the way

Nobody else seems to want the TS. So, it seems pretty obvious that somebody will get it. May as well be Burns.

UFC not over-hyping anything in this instance. Anyone who's watched Burns the last couple years knows he's damn good and deserves the title shot, especially since the BMF isn't that interested.
