It's weird enough that Aldo is fighting Yan for the vacant title considering that Aldo has no wins in the division and Yan is ranked #3 behind Moraes and Sterling, who both have far better resumes at 135.

But why is the #1 contender's fight between Sterling and Sandhagen not co-main eventing instead of Assuncao and Garbrandt?

Sandhagen just beat Assuncao, who's on a two fight losing streak. Cody is coming off of three straight KO losses, and Sterling just beat the last guy who KO'd him.

You can't even use the entertainment excuse to justify this. Sterling is a lot more interesting to watch since he improved his striking, and Sandhagen is a game fighter. Assuncao, on the other hand, almost always drags his opponents into slow-paced tactical fights.

...and to think that people give guys in the lower weight classes shit for not being able to promote themselves. Dana and the UFC just play favorites down there and don't give any exposure to the dudes who are actually putting in the work.

Same thing happened at UFC 238. Yan-Rivera was higher on the card than Sterling-Munhoz. The UFC can't promote and only relies on names. It is what it is.

They have done this multiple times now that I think about it. Cowboy-barboza was on the maincard while Khabib-RDA was on prelim. Khabib and RDA were both on a 5 fight win streak and RDA beat Cowboy the fight before.

Khabib Bless

sterling is boring as fuck, unless hes getting dabbed again

UFC card orders are fucking dumb. Whoever is in charge of that needs fired yesterday

If that is the true card order then that is incredibly stupid.

I mean I guess there is some business sense to it. Garbrandt is a former champion, and Assuncao has main evented but you should still be building your future prime contenders instead of trying to milk a little name value out of Cody Garbrandt. The winner of the fight is probably getting a title shot so give them the fucking shine. That seems like it has more value to me.

Sterling fights are awesome. Watch more MMA. Dude is a sick submission guy who's striking has been sharp and high pace lately.

If we're doing things purely by the books - it should be a Moraes/Sterling rematch for the vacant title with Yan fighting Sandhagen for the title eliminator. Baldo shouldn't be anywhere in the picture.

Jimmie Rivera is Yan's best win. Sterling beat him more convincingly and Moraes slaughtered him in under a minute. Sterling also has another top-5 win and Moraes also has 2 top-5 wins plus a win over Baldo.

But this is the UFC, and they're less worried than ever about the integrity of their title matches nowadays.

I think it was telling that Yan vs Rivera was put on the maincard of ufc 238 while Sterling vs Munhoz was on the prelims when Sterling just beat rivera

Yan dropped Rivera twice so while Sterling beat Rivera, Yan's performance was more exciting
