Not sure of this qualified as a ghost story but since it involves hiking as well here it goes:
In the summer of 2017 my ex and I went to Havasupai Falls (which is an Indian reservation in Arizona), to get there you have to park your car and hike 10 miles down, we camped there for 2-3 days, the hike leads to some of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen, keep in mind you have to start hiking early in the morning to avoid the daytime Arizona heat...
On the way back from the trip we decided to start hiking at 1:30am, the way back is uphill so the hike is way harder, given the fact you are carrying water/food/camping gear/tent etc... so we are hiking this road in pitch black we have lanterns with us, at some point it felt like we couldn't find our way back, you can hear a river in front of us so I flashed my light at the river and there was a native American sitting on a horse in the middle of the river giving us his back (this is at like 3am), I'm so confused as to why he was there at that time, I flash my light at him and I asked "are we going the right way?" to which he doesn't even acknowledge us , and then my ex was like "don't flash the light at him", eventually I see a bridge to the left and we keep hiking... About 15- 20 mins later we hear a really loud noise, my ex grabbed me and was like "what was that?" to this day I can't describe what the sound was, then we hear the sound of a horse, not going to lie I felt intimidated by the whole situation, given that there's no clear sings as to where to go during the hike.
Eventually we made it back to our car, but I am not sure what to make of the man in the horse and the loud sound that followed.
