Fury - Wilder 2 shows how much bigger boxing will ever be than mma.
Even the biggest star mma has ever produced had his biggest moment in a boxing ring.

It just has so much more mainstream appeal becoz people understand two men duking it out with the fists.
The respect the tradition of 'letting him get back up' in a stand-up fight.

They don't understand or have patience for rolling around on the ground or hugging against the fence.
The don't understand the intricacies of submissions and they prefer watching their high kicks in Kung Fu movies.

Sad but true. A shame because mma will always be the more dynamic and in my opinion exciting sport.

Boxing is atrociously boring more times than not. MMA is more exciting on average. That's all that matters to me

So you can see the future?

I think it's very possible that MMA will eventually surpass boxing in popularity. You can make the argument that it has in some ways already as a sport, with the exception of a handful of big name boxing superstars.

Nope, it frauded as real fighting before so it got all the recognition, now that people know mma and the ufc its over for boxing gradually fading as a secondary incomplete punching sport.

Do you have metrics to back that assertion?

The thing is, boxing undercards suck ass, while mma undercards are much more exciting. Boxing main events, and sometimes co mains are usually the only fights worth watching. All the other stuff is crap.

Canelo is their biggest star and he had to wait for Masvidal Vs Nate to finish so he could fight. LMAO

MMA is taking over. Deal with it.

UFC has no stars outside of McGregor, no-one marketable or charismatic. Tyson Fury has more character in his toe than Miocic, DC, Ngannou and Jones combed. Also boxing allows these elaborate costumes and entrances, UFC is very limited and doesn't even have a light show or stage like boxing events do.

Mcgregor is a much bigger name than Fury. and no, Fury isnt a big name in America, let alone a superstar. but i guess his name will rise a bit after this weekend. The fact is boxing has been marginalised more and more for the past 20 years, as Max Kellerman puts it.

And yet the biggest star in modern day combat sports (whose also active) is an MMA fighter.

The first Tyson/Wilder did like 300k lol...

Tyson Fury isn't that big of a superstar in America compared to athletes in other sports. He's not a household name if that's what you're trying to get at. Conor McGregor is a bigger star in America than Tyson Fury.

I'd even argue that the success of fighters from other countries killed the sport of boxing in America. The Klitschkos dominance of the 2000s severely hurt the popularity of boxing in America. Why? Because the success and popularity of boxing in America heavily relies on there being an American HW superstar. Guys like Floyd, De LaHoya, and prime Roy Jones Jr and maybe even Andre Ward helped boxing stay relevant during the 2000s into the 2010s, but those dudes are all gone now. Wilder was the "great American hope" and now he's gone. It is what it is.

Floyd moves the needle when it needs to be moved, but the consistent popularity of boxing isn't there anymore.

Also, Stipe is not very marketable. He has little to no personality. A cool guy that you'd like to have a beer with. A firefighter. Everything is there except the personality.

In terms of it being covered on the news and grabbing a regular member of the public’s attention, yes. But this is rare these days.

I think MMA is bigger with younger people in the western world, but the amount of these people who will become hardcore fans is still very low.

Literally no one MMA Fighter except Khabib and Conor are known in Europe. Fedor, Jon Jones, GSP are totally unknown and a random Dutch Soccer Player is a bigger Name than all of them together. Only Miocic and Cro Cop is known by Croats and thats all.

Just for the sake of clarity.

Nah, you are incorrect. Superfights aside, boxing’s PPV numbers have been only going one way in recent years....way down.

Boxing is a sport for middle-aged to elderly men who have worked the same job most of their lives, marry only once and either don't like Facebook or cannot understand it. In MMA you have a sport dedicated to the exuberance of youth. The sport is all about instantaneous reaction and an allegiance to the fringe.

The comparison between the number of times the word ‘boxing’ was searched versus the word ‘UFC’ over the past decade does make for interesting reading. According to Google trends, it is not even close, UFC is dominating the search war.

Boxing also has a massive head start. While the Marquess of Queensberry rules were first published by John Chambers in 1865, the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts have only been in use since 2001.

While boxing insiders fret over where their next landscape changer will surface from, UFC is enjoying the most successful spell of its existence, pulling in over a million views five times in 2016 alone, an incredible rise for a company averaging around the 50,000 mark 15 years ago.

Bottom line - MMA is on its way to become more popular than boxing.

Mma fans so insecure

Even if it has surpasses boxing. It will never reach the height boxing had in the 90s

Only conor does great numbers

The UFC don't even release numbers anymore because nobody buys it

Everyone streams UFC and boxing now

If Aj fights Fury it will have far more attention than any conor fight bar mayweather (a boxer lol)

What a trash take, this was billed as the biggest fight since Tyson - Lennox, and promoted by 2 big networks, yet will struggle to beat Mcgregor - Cowboy numbers, let alone Mcgregor - Khabib numbers.
