Look closely at their careers. Weidman's claim to fame is dethroning Silva and being UFC MW champ for a bit. Jacare has a better resume overall and has been competing for longer. He just never got the same opportunities as Weidman when it comes to the UFC, because he doesn't look or talk like Weidman.

Jacare is the best fighter at 185 that didn't become a champ. ufc screwed him too many times.

Is this even a real question? Weidman blasted through the UFC MW division, dethroned Anderson Silva and defended a couple of times. Jacare lost what were essentially title eliminators one after another, that's why never got the title shot.

Look at the competition that Souza fought and beat vs the competition that Weidman did. Look at their performances against common opponents. Weidman didn't have to beat anyone to get a title shot.

You are putting too much weight on the belt. Jacare had done enough to earn a shot as soon as he entered the UFC but was looked over.

Jacare choked every time he got close to the title

Christopher took advantage of his opportunity

Rockhold was Champ when the Strikeforce guys came over, so Jacare was at least behind him in the queue.

In terms of overall careers, Jacare may have the better wins over common opponents, but ending Anderson Silva's title reign is one of the best wins of all time.

Jacare is pretty far above Weidman in an all-time MW ranking imo.

Beating a 40-year old past his prime Silva doesn't mean that much. As evident by Weidman's downfall.

Jacare was screwed up the arse by Bisping and Dana. He was number one contender and Bisping chose Hendo and GSP. He's been properly screwed over.

I mean any time you beat someone with a 16 fight unbeaten run in the UFC it means something.

It's definitely impressive. I actually thought Weidman's second win over Silva was more impressive than the first. It's also a great achievement. Just not enough to overtake Jacare in terms of greatness imo. Also Weidman isn't even 35 right now and look at his streak.. That definitely diminishes his career a bit.

When Rockhold and Jacare came over from the UFC, Rockhold hot KTFO while Jacare tore through the division on a 4 fight win streak capped off by a stoppage of Mousasi. Add to the fact that he was already an established fighter and former strikeforce champion who lost a close decision to Luke. That was more than enough to warrant a titleshot.

He was rewarded with a shot against Camozzi.

Oh I agree that his career has been diminished a bit in recent years. But up until he lost the title when he had wins over Silva twice, Vitor, Lyoto, Maia and Munoz he was looking good.

It's not "the belt", it's dethroning Anderson Silva. But if you want to name common opponents, you have Rockhold and Yoel who they both lost to. Weidman beat Gastelum who beat Jacare. Jacare beat Mousasi who won a controversial fight against Weidman. The best case for Jacare and against Weidman is based on activity, Weidman doesn't fight that often.

He wasn't supposed to fight Camozzi, that fight was supposed to be against Yoel, but he got injured, Camozzi was on a couple of days notice IIRC.

He wasn't in the mix when Weidman got his shot, Machida and Belfort were ahead in the queue and then Rockhold had rebuilt himself by crushing people. After that I agree he should have got a shot.

They both also beat Vitor, but Weidman fought a much closer to prime version.
